The Self Control Gland and Fasting
By Hwaa Irfan
It is interesting that the those of the past, eve the ancients, were more aware of the role of the pineal gland in their lives than we are today! Not peculiar to the human being, in the 2nd century, Galen brought awareness to the West of the pineal gland, which by the 18th century was described as the ‘seat of the human soul’ by French scientist and philosopher Renes Descartes as it is where…
“In man, soul and body touch each other at a single point…”
Between the two hemispheres, and above the mouth chamber, the endocrine /hormonal) gland, the pineal appears in the developing human fetus around 49 days after conception.
We know that intermittent fasting acts like a trigger that activates certain genes responsible for some serious repair work, as in the case of ‘animal studies’ which demonstrate a reduction in certain cancers.
When fasting, the pineal gland secretes more melatonin, which is a neuro-transmitter that is a powerful antioxidant, which is also produced in the liver, biliary routes and pancreas. The waking night time hours should not be taken advantage of because this is when the pineal gland secretes melatonin which is released into the body, when light is not present. When the sun sets, the pineal gland shifts gear and produces its primary hormone melatonin in larger quantities until it peaks from 2 – 3.00a.m in the morning. The only other time that melatonin is released is during relaxation, and meditation, and the Qur’an tells us that He made night a time for rest, and for prayer for a short while.
We are created by electromagnetic energy and we react to energy stimuli wherever it may be, and the pineal gland does also. As you see, the pineal gland is a photosensitive organ. This makes it very important to the human body.
Whereas Western belief in general today is of the notion that awareness/concsciousness emerges from the nervous system, spiritual practices today (including practices during Ramadhan) sheds other light. In tandem with modern research (some clandestine (psyops) has helped to increase understanding including how the transmission of light is vital to human kind. As a photosensitive organ, The pineal’s source of energy is received via the retina – the hypothalamus (the suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) of the hypothalamus protjects into the pineal) = retinohypothalamic tract, which relays information about dark/light to a point in the hypothalamus (supra chiasmatic nucleus). From this point, information is relayed by the sympathetic nervous system (pineal nerve), to the pineal gland it self. This journey is what conspires to prevent the production of melatonin, but when there is no light ( a reality that must be factored into Islamic fasting), melatonin is released. This then, activates what is a key step in psychic, spiritual and energy transformation processes.
Before modern science began to understand the role of the pineal gland, its twin, the pituitary gland was believed to control everything in the human body. While the role of the pituitary gland is to exercise control over the body physical, the pineal gland exercises control over the mental and spiritual, with both working through a well coordinated system of of hormones and nerves. This is how the mezan is built into us that as human beings we take for granted. In a state of long term fasting, when we begin assuming that energy levels are dependent on the intake of foods, as we progress into our fast, we find that a boost of energy comes from somewhere else when we fast in a state of relaxation into what has always been known as the seat of cosnciousness, but is also the point from which our Soul exits during sleep and death!
The sleep deprivation experienced from night time prayer, and during the fasting month of Ramadhan also activates the pineal gland along with the long rounds of prayer, which if one follows the strict code of Ramadhan fasting that includes anything of pleasure, including perfume, then one will understand that this is true fasting, the fasting of all external stimuli, which cleanses the pineal gland (i.e. calcification) and activates the pineal gland. These practices help to release the hormone dimethyltryptamine, DMT.
DMT is a peptide, a hormone, an energy transporter that works across the blood brain barrier. Dr. Rick Strassman of the University of New Mexico (1990 -1995) found DMT is released from the pineal during dreams, near-death, death, birth, and during meditation and mystical experiences. DMT is also psychoactive in nature and can cause intense visions, and with other peptides are released during such experiences that have been referred to as the nectar of the gods, ambrosia, the living water, and amrita. When released a trickle down the back of the throat can be experienced. DMT in turn increases all pituitary homones and beta-endorphins, vasopressin, prolactin, Growth Hormone, and corticotrophrin (cortisol).
All forms of temporary stimlation including serotonin retake up drugs, but the result is a drop into depression.
Continuous spiritual practice is the only practice that sustains an active pineal, and that sustained practice gives us access to greater, more wholesome control over our whole selves, which in todays world of global governance is not to be encouraged! St. Paul on the road to Damascus experienced this state through sensory deprivation – fasting, and Paulo Coehlo referred to this state as the ‘epiphany’ or the ‘Alpha/Aleph.
Dr. Navneet Shah, U.S. refers to an extreme case of fasting in the Physician Endocrinologist.
Mr.Hira Ratan Manek began fasting on 1.1.2000. HRM completed a 411 day fast successfully on 14th Feb 2001. The form of fasting was according to his belief Jainism – drink boiling water daily between 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. no other liquids, no food, no I\V or I\M injections. He was completely kept isolated while under strict medical observation. Medical observation and checkups consisted of daily written record of pulse, blood pressure, respiration, temperature, water intake, urine output, weight etc. and relevant Hematological and biochemical (basic and few advanced)and periodic tests. ECGs are taken regularly, Ultra Sonography, EEG, CT.Scan and M.R.I. Brain have been taken at the end of one year and a team consisting of general practitioner doctors, physicians, surgeons, cardiologists, endocrinologist and a neurologist have been examining regularly and periodically from first day of fasting. The result with no medical abnormality :
- Loss of 19 kgs weight, (stable for 3 months)
- a slight reduction of pulse rate and B.P.
- reduction of respiratory rate (from 18 it is now 10/minute)
- Brain and mental capacities normal
- Stopped passing stool after 16th day of fasting
- Urine output stabilized at 600 to 800 c.c.
- Blood sugar is 60 – 90.
- No acetone.
- Ketones appear in urine in first week
The only other source of energy, is the means by which the pineal gland draws energy, light… from the retinas – the hypothalmic retinohypothalamic tract – the hypothalmic suprachiasmatic nucleus – pineal nerve (Sympathetic nerves system) – pineal gland, which is a photosensitve gland (just as plants draw energy through the process of photosynthesis. This journey prevents the production of melatonin, accept when there is no light, which stimulates melatonin production.
The pineal gland contains rhombohedron-shaped microcrystals, which was found by a French-Israeli team (Baconnier Simon, Lang Sidney B., De Seze Rene, to demonstrate “piezoelectric properties with excitability in the frequency range of mobile communications” that interact with GSM (cellular phone) waves, and electromagnetic fields in general. The downside is the affect on calcium channels within human physiology.
HRM’s pineal gland as measured via a CT scan was 8 x 11 mm. A standard pineal gland is 6 x 8 mm. Any signs of malfunction were not apparent. There is much still to discover about the pineal gland, but as a neuroendocrine gland that plays such an important role in human physiology, and spritual awakening, despite the efforts of modern medicine to turn it into a part of the body with an on and off switch, like the rest of the human body much should not be taken for granted, and there is much that we have taken for granted as to the spiritual nature of man.
- Mercury found in tooth fillings, and vaccines is toxic to the pineal gland
- Fluoride added to mainwater supplies in certain developed countries is toxic to the pineal gland, and damages the gland by causing calcification. Fluoride is also added to certain drugs, and foods.
- Artificial sweeteners (aspartame K) are toxic to the pineal gland
- Refined sugar is toxic to the pineal gland
- E numbers beginning with 1 is toxic to the pineal gland
- SSRI-AntiDepressants causes accumulation of the neurotransmitter serotonin that is produced by the pineal gland, and also elevated melatonin.
- Calcium supplements increases calcification oof the pineal gland
High level exposure to ELF (extremely low frequency) magnetic fields affect the function of the pineal gland and reduces production of the hormone, melatonin. Continuous exposure leads to:
- Breast/prostate cancer
- prostate enlargement
- irregular menstrual cycle
- sensitivity to stress
- neurodegerative disorder (MS, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, ALS, etc)
- elevated cholesterol
- high blood pressure
- blood clots
- heart attack
- heart arrhythmias
The pineal gland acts as an electromagnetic sensor that regulates electrical generation in the body. Is that not worth taking care of!
