The Unhealthy Habit of Being Gullible?

A thousand goals have there been hitherto, for a thousand peoples have there been. Only the fetter for the thousand necks is still lacking; there is lacking the one goal. As yet humanity hath not a goal. But pray tell me, my brethren, if the goal of humanity be still lacking, is there not also still lacking- humanity itself? - Nietszche

The Unhealthy Habit of Being Gullible?

By Hwaa Irfan

The automatic response does not always tell the truth. The automatic response is merely a kneew jerk reaction to what one does not want to no, after all, if we keep telling ourselves that skin tight, water proof ,materials that we wear along with stiletto heels heightens our sex appeal, ignoring the fact that it is unhealthy, or that it opens us up to sexual abuse afterall it is a clear cut case of sexual objectification is an expression of who we truly are. Or that this this just another economic depression like before, and we can get over it as long as somebody else suffers the consequences, or that this is the only economic system and there is no alternative, or that the killing, mudering and torturing in Libya and Syria is caused by the a regime against democracy, and not by foreign powers stoking up a storm to remap the world to sustain their control over everything even their voters in the West, then we are born gullible.

What tight clothes, and imperialism have in common is the intent are realities that it is somebody elses life/lies. At what point in those lies/their lives did we actively participate in its creation? At what point did we express our own opinions instead of opinions that in many subtle and not so subtle ways belong to somebody else. If this is not the case then why are we so depressed? Why do we feel empty? Why do we feel anger when someone does not do as we do, or give us what we have been told to expect? Why do we feel lonely in the midst of a crowd, or compelled to behave like others in order to be accepted? We do so many things throughout all our lives, yet we are not really happy becuase what we do and how we feel only tells us that we have handed over our imagination, our creativity, our passions, and our real purposes to something less than our true selves.

All of the above is the price of sitting down in front of the T.V. and pretending to be in control of our respective lives.  We have earned the right to pick up the remote control and switch on and off, becuase we ar so exhausted from doing and living somebody elses life-lies, sittting in front of the T.V., the screen, the desk, the computer, the steering wheel, the whatever there is to tell us this is what constitutes human progress.  Yet one of the few good things that still comes out of the U.S., are the kind of reports that most people ignore, becuase they question some aspect of the status quo.

The American Heart Association in their recent research have found that:

  • An extra hour of T.V. watching daily increases death from heart attack by 18%
  • Watching T.V. 4 hours daily leads to 80% risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Watching T.V. 2- hours daily leads to 46% risk of cardiovascular disease

We are born to be proactive with our lives, not simply sit around – why else were we designed with hands, and feet. We are born to use our muscles, which are rich in enzymes that the rest of our body needs. By standing alone, we release those enzymes and enable them to serve their purpose. Sitting not only relaxes the muscles, but reduces the activity of those enzymes by 90% – 95%, leaving fat to accumulate in our blood streams. After sitting for only 2 hours, our healthy much needed cholesterol level drops by 20%!

As one sits and listen to the imgainative racket of Bon Jovi’s “We Weren’t Born to Follow” instead, turn off the volume and watch the video that goes with the song and realize that standing up and being counted also means placing greater value on your life!
