When Walking Barefoot is a Part of What Makes You Well*

When Walking Barefoot is a Part of What Makes You Well*

When winter strikes it is the poor Egyptians in the city that fare better than the wealthy. Their feet might be dirty, but there state of health during the sudden cold months is freer from colds, flus and upper respiratory infections. Unable to afford exorbitant endless medical bills it is just as well that shoes are not on the survival list.

There is a resurgence of age-old concepts to keep up with the deteriorating ever-changing environment – from using natural remedies, alternative healing to yoga/meditation or even a simple act of walking barefoot on earth, known as ‘Grounding/ Earthing’. Throughout time humans and even plants, animals, have always been in closer contact with the Earth, but unfortunately, the modern lifestyle has disconnected us from the Earth’s energy, making us more vulnerable to stress and illness.

Remember your childhood days when walking barefoot in the garden was refreshing and didn’t you love the feeling of tender grass/green blades caressing your skin. Now there is a scientific reason to why the contact with Mother Earth makes you feel good and how we desperately need it in present times.

We live in an environment where we are exposed to an ever-growing amount of electromagnetic fields (EMF), this increases the amount of free radicals being produced in our bodies. Free radicals are positively charged molecules which lead to inflammation. Direct contact with earth instantly transfers natural electrical energy to the body, as the earth is a limitless source of negative-charged free electrons. (Our heart, brain, nervous system, muscles and immune system are all essentially electrical subsystems operating within a ‘bioelectrical’ body.)

When you are in direct contact with the ground (walking, sitting, or laying down on the earth’s surface), the flow of energy from the earth (free electrons) neutralises the impact of free radicals in our body. This induces favorable physiological changes that promote optimum health.

Traditionally shoes were made of leather, which actually conducts electrons and therefore maintains a conductive contact between the Earth and your feet. However modern day rubber and plastics are electrical insulators and therefore block the beneficial flow of electrons from the Earth to your body.

Earthing can be done by walking barefoot and/or sitting outside on the lawn, dirt, or sand. Earthing should be done for at least 60 minutes every day and for optimal benefits as much as you can in a day!

The reasons why we need to walk barefoot and tap into the primal energy of the Earth:

1) Inflammation has been linked to nearly every degenerative disease you can think of — cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis, glaucoma, autoimmune disorders, cancer and many more. Earthing reduces chronic inflammation and related chronic pain.

2) Earthing neutralizes the free radicals in our bodies, significantly reducing oxidative stress and readily recovers us from injuries, trauma and exhaustion.

3) Earthing recommended for anyone with an auto-immune condition
Grounding affects your DNA immediately

4) When you ground to the electron-enriched earth, an improved balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system occurs.

5) Enhances circulation, leading to more energy

6) The Earth is the natural antidote for electron deficiency to achieve a healthy balance.

7) Improved sleep

8) Reduces hormonal and menstrual symptoms

Dr. James Oschman, Ph.D. biophysicist and pioneer Earthing researcher, says, “The moment your foot touches the Earth…, your physiology changes. An immediate normalization begins. and an anti-inflammatory switch is turned on. People stay inflamed because they never connect to the Earth, the source of free electrons, which can neutralize the free radicals in the body that cause disease and cellular destruction.”
These are a couple of informative videos on the benefits of Grounding and why everyone needs to reconnect with Earth’s energy. The first one below shows Clint Ober, who discovered the benefits of Earthing, explaining more about it:

David Wolfe, a health, eco, nutrition and natural beauty expert, talks about Earthing and conducts experiments to show the instant change in the body after connecting with Earth’s energy. It’s a 5-part series, below are all the videos:

Buddhist Massacre of Rohingya Muslims Continue*

Buddhist Massacre of Rohingya Muslims Continue*

A Buddhist mob has rampaged through a village in Myanmar, stabbing to death women and children from the Muslim community.

Chris Lewa of the Arakan Project advocacy group said on Friday that the latest act of violence against Rohingya Muslims took place during the early hours of January 14 in the western state of Rakhine.

The group has been documenting abuses against Rohingyas for over a decade.

Lewa added that the death toll could range between 10 and 60.

Tensions have mounted in the region since last month, when monks from a Buddhist extremist movement gave sermons in the area by loudspeaker, advocating the removal of all Rohingya Muslims, who comprise 90 percent of the population in Rakhine.

A resident, who works as a volunteer English teacher and asked not to be named, said the issue followed the discovery of three bodies in a ditch near the village of Du Char Yar Tan, AP reported.

The teacher added that firewood collectors who found the bodies believed they were among a group of eight Rohingyas who went missing after being arrested by authorities days earlier.

The firewood collectors informed friends and neighbors who returned with their cell phones to take pictures.

That night, five police officers went to the village to take away the phones and check family lists. Residents clashed with the officers.

Following the skirmishes, police claimed that one of their officers had gone missing and, along with Myanmar soldiers, surrounded the village, breaking down doors and plundering livestock and other valuables, according to the English teacher.

Meanwhile, Lewa said that her sources reported that Rohingya women and children had been stabbed to death.

That some of the victims appeared to have been hacked with knives, not shot or beaten, “would clearly indicate the massacre was committed by (Buddhist) Rakhine villagers, rather than the police or army,” the Arakan Project wrote in a briefing Thursday.

Myanmar government officials have confirmed that the situation was tense, but denied any deaths.

Myanmar’s government refuses to recognize Rohingya Muslims as citizens and labels them as “illegal” immigrants.

Big Bank Food Speculation: U.K. Blocks Move to End Rising Prices*

Big Bank Food Speculation: U.K. Blocks Move to End Rising Prices*

FoodlessThe UK is being accused of attempts to block EU reform to prevent food speculation. It took EU negotiators three years to agree on a regulation against speculation by banks and hedge funds which drives up food prices, aggravating the global hunger crisis.

The deal introduces new rules to limit speculation on products linked to what people eat, such as wheat, corn, soybeans or sugar. The new controls will set limits on the number of food contracts that banks and other finance institutions can hold, pushing traders to open their activity to greater public scrutiny.

Representatives of the EU’s 28 governments and EU lawmakers clinched the deal on the outlines of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFiD) in Strasbourg late on Tuesday. The bloc’s executive arm, the European Commission, has promised that the rules on agricultural derivatives would “contribute to orderly pricing and prevent market abuse, thus curbing speculation on commodities and the disastrous impacts it can have on the world’s poorest populations.”

Organizations fighting global hunger welcomed the long-awaited regulation, vital for people across Europe “struggling to cope with high and volatile prices.”

EU policy advisor from the international aid agency Oxfam informed on the organization’s website that the agreement introduced limits on speculating “in spite of attempts by the UK and other governments to block any meaningful reform.”

According to Oxfam’s EU policy advisor, the deal is “far from perfect.”

“Unjustified exemptions were granted to powerful lobbies and limits will be set nationally, rather than at the European level. There is a real risk, particularly in the UK, of ineffective sky high limits triggering a regulatory race to the bottom between European countries,” Marc Olivier Herman warned.

He explained that new limits to the bets that speculators can make will apply to contracts traded “over the counter” and throughout the lifetime of the contracts. “This is good news for millions in the developing world, who can spend up to 75 percent of their income on food, as well as producers, who rely on stable food prices.”

The agreement is part of the major European financial reform. After it is officially approved by members of the European Parliament and EU finance ministers in the coming months, it will be included into national legislation in each of the 28 EU member states.

Meanwhile, another anti-poverty group, the World Development Movement (WDM) pointed out that the UK government’s opposition to tough controls has resulted in “serious loopholes in the regulation.” Among the biggest drawbacks in the new rules is that limits will be set at national rather than EU level, which, according to WDM, risks a regulatory “race to the bottom,” with countries competing with each other to set weaker limits.

“The UK’s role in watering down the regulation has been a disgrace. The Treasury has put the profits of banks like Goldman Sachs above the basic human need for food, with the result that the new rules could be too weak to be effective,” director of the World Development Movement Nick Dearden stated, adding that the current objective is to make sure that the limits are set at a level that “properly tackles excessive speculation.”

He said the new regulation has only been introduced thanks to public outrage over food speculation, and “the fact that the EU has listened to that anger is a victory for public pressure.”

According to WDM, a leaked document earlier revealed attempts by the UK government to prevent proposed controls on food speculation ahead of negotiations in Brussels in November.

The memo, sent by UK negotiators to their counterparts from other European countries, allegedly acknowledged their opposition to strict limits on the amount that banks and other financial players can speculate in commodity derivative markets.

The UK has been pushing for the continuation of a system of self-regulation, which gives speculators carte blanche to cause spikes in foodstuff prices. The World Development Movement said that by trying to weaken regulation to curb food speculation, the UK government is putting the profits of big banks before the right of people to access to food.

“Yet again, our government is doing the banks’ dirty work for them. The UK should be backing tough controls to stop banks gambling on hunger, instead of throwing a wrecking ball,” Dearden noted in November.

According to WDM, five banks made an estimated total of 2.2 billion pounds from speculating on food, including wheat, maize and soy, between 2010 and 2012. Goldman Sachs, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley were the top five global investment banks involved in global commodity markets, making an estimated 640 million pounds ($1 billion) from speculating on food in 2012 alone.
