Why Your Child Should Practice Martial Art*

Why Your Child Should Practice Martial Art*

Many experienced teachers have noted that many students lack the psycho-motor skills that make it possible for them to learn. Increasingly, responsible parents try to keep their children at home out of fear for their personal safety, but the high price is a child who is poor or completely lacking in the social skills that will help them interact positively with others. Add to this a child reared on video games, and i-pads, the result is a child who becomes dysfunctional outside of that virtual world.

We cannot be with our children 24/7, actually it’s quite unnatural, children need their space too. With children’s personal sovereignty placed at great risk these days, even within the home child sexual abuse has become the norm. Martial Arts is one way today’s children can take control of their lives.

By James Hundson

Have you at anytime observed what the kids learn at the Martial Arts academy? Take out some time and… You will know what exactly is taught to them.

Ever since the first form was founded, martial arts has been known to be an activity that helps one strengthen mind and body and also helps in self defense against strangers or attackers. With some additional modifications made in the original form, there are a number of art forms that are being practiced around the world.

Learning martial arts does not simply indulge one in an activity, but also has many health benefits on the artist. The benefits of performing this activity can be seen when one is dedicated and focuses completely on perfecting the known techniques and learning the more advanced ones. Encouraging your child to perform them will prove to be a greater boon for you and your child as you will see him being developed into a responsible individual with high self esteem and the confidence that he can now take care of himself. Let us take a look at the main benefits that your child can obtain by learning martial arts.

  1. Make them more Active:

With obesity on a rise, there is need for people to be active and get involved in activities that enhance movements and give strength. Kids have to be trained right from the beginning so that they do not fall prey to the signs of obesity. Not every kid or individual can become an athlete to keep working out. Thus, the techniques of martial arts will help the child to perform necessary movements that will keep him fit. Martial artists are said to be the fittest people that may be found. Forms like the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are well known ones that help one remain active and increase flexibility.

2. Learn to Deal with Failures:

Let us consider the real life failures to be the hits that one has to face while performing martial arts. It is true that one is taught to fight and hit the person in order to defend himself. But, one also needs to bear some hits. The fight is never one sided. Keeping aside the physical hits that we have been talking about, kids are also taught to deal with the other failures that they may face in school, exams and other walks of life. Thus, bearing the mental and physical hits will make the child much stronger to face the tough challenges in life.

3. Gain Self Confidence and Self Respect:

The myth that the size and the age determine the strength that one may have needs to be eliminated. Martial arts teach a child to fight with an attacker irrespective of size and age. The techniques not only help in increasing ones strength but the self confidence that one would experience from within. The confidence that he can overcome and defend an attack well will help him respect himself.

4. Increase in Concentration Power:

Although martial arts may seem to be an activity all about kicks and punches, it does not always mean to concentrate on the movements you make. While you are fighting with an opponent, it is important to focus on defending every attack that he may make. If you are about to defend a kick, you also need to be alert of the other body parts that he may use to attack you. Concentrating on these different traits and being alert here will help your child to be alert and concentrate in real life too.

5. Improved Cardiovascular Health:

Martial arts like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and many other forms help in increasing the heart rate and improve the blood flow through the body. Martial artists are known to have stronger heart muscles and thus can fight other heart related problems easily. A weak cardiovascular health may result in fatigue, weakness, lethargy, shortness of breath and many more that may not keep the child active at young age. Teaching a child the basic techniques will encourage him to practice this art all through his life and thus will give him a healthy heart to live with.

These 5 main benefits are the main ones that will let you know why your child needs to go in for a martial arts training session. Kids are said to have a higher grasping power because of which they can learn things soon. Thus, introduction of the right form of martial art like Judo, Karate, Taekwondo or even Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a younger age will help your child master the basics and be encourage to learn the advanced techniques so that he can practice it all his life and stay healthy and face the world upright!

Rothschild’s Anglo American to Sell South African Mines*

Rothschild’s Anglo American to Sell South African Mines*

By Cecilia Jamasmie

South Africa, Africa’s largest economy, holds about 80% of the world’s known platinum reserves, accounting for about 70% of global output. Maybe it’s time to nationalize the mines…

Anglo American’s (LON:AAL) platinum unit, Amplats, revealed details Monday about the planned sale of its strike-hit mines in South Africa, where the company recently lost 420,000 ounces in production causing first-half profit to plunge.

“Both management time and capital are finite,” the company, which is the world’s number one platinum producer, said in a statement.

“The decision has been made to possibly exit certain assets that will be better placed in the hands of a new owner.”

The assets on the block, disclosed the company, are its Union and Rustenburg mines in South Africa and its Pandora joint venture… The Union and Rustenburg operations account for just over 25% of Anglo American Platinum’s annual platinum production and more than half of its workforce.

Anglo American Platinum said it is still assessing its Bokoni operation, adding it plans to keep its smelting and refining operations in both Union and Rustenburg. It will also retain its mine in Zimbabwe and several others lower-cost assets in South Africa.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) expressed its disappointment and threatened to make the process difficult.

“Any sale is going to result in job losses and this is punishment for poor workers. They are an established platinum operator and any sale will have certain consequences,” NUM general secretary Frans Baleni told Reuters.

Nothing new under the Sun

The news doesn’t come as a surprise for those following the latest developments at Amplats mines. In an April interview, chief executive officer Mark Cutifani said he didn’t think those mines were key to the company. His statement took on a whole new meaning after Amplats reported it had lost output worth about $1.1bn during the five-month strike over pay at its mines, the same ones that last year accounted for over 40% of the company’s total platinum production.

Sibanye Gold (NYSE:SBGL) —South Africa’s top bullion producer— has been repeatedly hinted as the most likely buyer for Anglo’s mines in the platinum belt.

Mark Cutifani, who became Anglo American’s chief executive officer in April 2013, said last year he considered performance at the mining group to have been “unacceptably poor” and set a goal of improving Anglo’s return on capital to at least 15% by 2016 from about 8% in June.

Amplats profit for the first six months of the year ended June 30 was a mere ($40.3 million (429 million rand) compared with a net profit of 1.22 billion rand in the year-earlier period. The company said equivalent refined production during the period fell to 715,000 ounces from 1.18 million ounces in the first half of 2013. Refined platinum sales for the first half of 2014 fell to 1.04 million ounces on the year compared with 1.074 million ounces.

South Africa, Africa’s largest economy, holds about 80% of the world’s known platinum reserves, accounting for about 70% of global output, used for jewellery, catalytic converters in vehicles, and as a key source of hard currency for the country, among other applications.

ISIS exposed at House of Lords and the Covenant of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)*

By John Andrew Morrow with Kevin Barrett

Dr. John Andrew Morrow is the author/editor/translator of The Covenants of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of the World. Based on some of the oldest manuscripts in the history of Islam, this book shows that the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) made agreements with various Christian communities that are binding on all Muslims till the end of time. These agreements require Muslims to protect and defend Christians. Today, some self-styled Muslim extremists and obscurantists are persecuting Middle Eastern Christians. This must stop!

These agreements require Muslims to protect and defend Christians. Today, some self-styled Muslim extremists and obscurantists are persecuting Middle Eastern Christians. This must stop!

According to credible reports, ISIS has killed hundreds if not thousands of Christians in Syria, and is now in Iraq ethnically cleansing Mosul of its ancient Christian community. Yet the US and its allies are not just standing by – they are the ones who created, trained, and funded ISIS and unleashed it on the people of the region!

On Tuesday, June 24th, 2014, Dr. John Andrew Morrow, author of The Covenants of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of the World, delivered the following declaration at the House of Lords in the United Kingdom:

I am here to express my solidarity with the people of Iraq.

The Muslim world suffers from a crisis of leadership. The traditional religious and political infrastructure was dismantled by Western colonialists and imperialists as well as internal decay.

A void was created and that void has been filled by those who offer the loudest voice and the biggest bank accounts.

The situation in Syria and Iraq is the product of poor foreign policy.

Western powers have a history of sometimes supporting terrorists abroad and then they expect us to contain them domestically.

Who created ISIS? Who supported ISIS? Who funded, armed, trained, and advised ISIS?

You cannot mobilize 100,000 foreign-backed fighters and mercenaries in Syria and Iraq without the complicity of the surrounding countries and without the support of regional powers.

History is our greatest teacher.

Experience should inform our decisions.

Present decisions impact our future.

Supporting the Mujahidin, in the way we did, gave us al-Qaeda.

Supporting the Syrian rebels, the way we have, gave us al-Nusra and DAISH, this so-called “Islamic” State of Iraq and the Levant.

In their attempt to remove little devils, they replaced them with greater devils.

It’s sad to say, but Libya had more stability under Qaddafi.

It’s sad to say, but Egypt had more order under Mubarak.

It’s sad to say, but Syria was more stable under Assad.

What can we do? What can be done?

1) For starters, pressure Western powers to stop supporting groups, directly or indirectly, that persecute Christians, Shi’ites, Sunnis, and anyone else who opposes them.

2) Help put a halt to religious colonialism. Take steps to prevent outside interference in our religious affairs in the West. Stop the spread of Takfiri-Jihadi preachers and propaganda.

3) Support the dissemination of traditional Islam and by traditional civilizational Islam, I include the Sunnis, the Shi’ites, and the Sufis.

4) Help reconnect Muslims to their spiritual tradition: the Qur’an, the Sunnah, the true Shari’ah, and, most critically, the Covenants of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of the World.

The Covenants of the Prophet provide an authentic model for Muslims to follow with real implications. They can’t solve the ISIS crisis. They can, however, help undermine the theological and political foundation of so-called “Islamic” extremism. They can also help galvanize Muslims around foundational primary sources which came straight from the Prophet.

The real army of Islam is not ISIS.

The real army of Islam are those who oppose them while abiding by the Islamic rules governing combat.

Who speaks for Islam?

It certainly isn’t ISIS and other terrorists who slaughter, unarmed men, women, and children; who crucify Christians and who cannibalize corpses.

Who speaks for Islam?

THE PROPHET SPEAKS FOR ISLAM!

And those who terrorize Muslims and Christians have broken the Covenant of the Prophet, made a mockery of Islam, and merit the malediction of Allah.

North Cyprus Declares Three Days Mourning for Gaza*

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has followed in the footsteps of Turkey and announced three days of national mourning for the hundreds of Palestinians who have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Israel upped its attacks on the region.

The TRNC Prime Minister’s office on Tuesday released a statement saying that all flags on official buildings will be flown at half-mast until Thursday, July 24.

The TRNC, which is host to many Palestinian students studying in its universities, this week saw a number of protests condemning the Israeli onslaught on Gaza.

Almost 650 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed since Israel commenced its air, ground and sea offensive against the blockaded Gaza Strip on July 7.

Around a third of those killed have been children, as Israeli warplanes bomb indiscriminately in heavily population residential areas.

Egyptian TV Presenter: Israelis Control Egyptian Media*

Egyptian TV Presenter: Israelis Control Egyptian Media*

Egyptian TV Presenter: Israelis Control Egyptian Media*

Egyptian television presenter Tawfiq Okasha, one of the loudest mouthpieces of the Egyptian regime and President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, who led the military coup last July which saw the deaths of over 8,000 Egyptians, has spoken openly on television about his views on Israel. A video showing different clips of Okasha speaking about his views has been published on YouTube and Facebook.

Speaking as a guest on the political-commentary satellite channel Faraeen, of which he is the owner and principal anchor, Okasha spoke of controlling the people. He explained:

“We create a people of weak minds so that from a distance, we can, by using the economy, control them to believe that it [their situation] is their fate, and they don’t have a choice.”

Okasha continued:

“Who is it who created this philosophy, the philosophy of American media schools? It is the teachers of the Jewish media, upon whose hands I was taught.

“The children of Israel completely control the media in Egypt.”

He said this fact is “official”. Okasha swore by God three times that this is a fact. It’s not only the media in Egypt Okasha continues, but in all Arab countries, giving the example of Saudi-owned satellite channel MBC.

In a clip from Okasha’s talk show on Faraeen channel, he claimed that he would be going to stand outside the American Embassy that week, after which he would be going to Israel.

“I respect them and I respect their mentality. And by the way they respect me very, very, very much,” he said, telling the viewers:

“Do you know why this is? Because when they train someone, and they see that that person has become successful, they respect them” referring to himself.

Another short clip from his talk show shows Okasha angry about Gaza, saying in the Egyptian dialect what translates to be: What are you talking about Gaza? Who cares? To hell with Gaza.

In another interview, Okasha was asked whether he would accept an invitation to be a guest on an Israeli channel, to which he affirmed in the positive, saying that of course he would like to relay his thoughts to the Israeli citizens.

In the same interview he was asked:

“Do you acknowledge that the Jews have a right over the lands [of Palestine]?” to which he answered “Yes, of course”.

Teacher Disciplined Because Her Students’ Scores are too High*

Teacher Disciplined Because Her Students’ Scores are too High*

An East Rockaway teacher has accused the school district of ousting her from the classroom because her students’ strong performance on standardized tests has backfired.

Voula Coyle, a veteran fourth grade teacher at Rhame Avenue School, said her strong teaching skills have dragged down her school’s state rating.

Coyle alleged she has been falsely accused of misconduct after she brushed off administrators’ calls for teachers to do a lackluster job in order to rig the state’s ranking system.

She said in an interview with FiOS1 News that district has engaged in a campaign of harassment and intimidation against her and has fostered “a divisive environment where the children are suffering.

“They are not putting their concern where it needs to be: with the children and the taxpayers,” said the 17-year instructor at the grammar school. “And they are destroying my reputation in the community.”

Coyle and her attorney Vincent White of White, Ricotta & Marks PC in Queens, say they are considering filing litigation against the district.

Coyle, who was reassigned from her classroom to a clerical job at the end of April, said her students have consistently scored above average on state tests, winning her the highest possible rating on the pupil performance section of the state’s Annual Professional Performance Review.

But her students’ solid work has become a problem for Rhame Avenue School teachers at the next grade level and for the school as a whole, according to White.

The New York State Education Department’s performance rating system is designed to reward instructors and schools when students show academic improvement from one grade to the next, White said.

But Coyle’s students’ scores either don’t improve or get worse while they are in fifth grade. As a result a few fifth grade teachers have been rated as less than effective and the school’s entire score has been pulled down, which could pose a threat to state funding, according to Coyle.

The instructor said her superiors have regularly encouraged her and her colleagues to avoid overachieving and to keep their scores from exceeding the state rating of “effective.”

“One faculty member said our job is not to be optimal, but to be adequate. That underlying message of mediocrity was promoted,” Coyle said. Teachers were also told to accept that a third of their students would understand the material, another third would be average and the rest would fail, she said.

“You’re assuming from the start that you are abandoning a third of the children,” she said.

Schooling By David DeesBut Coyle said she ignored her superiors’ warnings to rein in test scores and found herself a target for termination. Coyle said she was accused of helping her students cheat on their April 2012 state tests by pointing out questions that they had answered incorrectly and encouraging them to double check their answers and redo their work.

School officials’ testing impropriety allegations went before an arbitrator, and on April 29 — the day before Coyle was slated to testify during the arbitration hearings — she was reassigned from the elementary school to a non-teaching position at East Rockaway High School, she said.

The arbitrator cleared Coyle of wrongdoing on June 4. The teacher said that the school failed to properly investigate the allegations, not bothering to question a teacher’s assistant who was present when the tests were administered and who disputed the accusations.

Nevertheless, Coyle has been notified that she will be again be assigned to administrative duty at the high school in September and that she is under investigation for new charges that she mistreated her students — a claim that she said is likewise baseless.

“I have a 17-year exemplary personnel file,” Coyle said. “I believe the school district is gaming the system.”

Calls to the principal of Rhame Avenue School and to the district’s superintendent were not immediately returned Tuesday.
