Ukraine and the NWO Crisis’s*

Ukraine and the NWO Crisis’s*

By Margaret Kimberley

The United States and NATO attack on the Russian Federation has failed. The Ukrainians who refused to accept the legitimacy of the West’s puppet government emerged victorious on the battlefield. If there is any doubt on that point, Ukraine’s decision to sign the Minsk Protocol cease fire agreement is proof. President Poroshenko seemed like a man in the cat bird seat when western nations chose sides in a civil war and kicked out his predecessor. The road to hell was paved with very bad intentions.

One wouldn’t know it from reading and viewing the corporate media, but the western gambit has been disastrous. More than 1 million people have been displaced (most fled to Russia), the economies of many countries have been damaged by sanctions, and atrocities such as the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 would have been avoided if there had been any grownups at work in the western capitals.

The talking heads should be telling us about the failing effort to prop up the empire, but instead they parrot the words of the losing side. After destroying Libya and killing president Gaddafi the evil empire concluded that they had found a winning formula. Fortunately for humankind, Bashir al Assad hangs on in Syria and all that NATO has to show for its misadventures is ISIS, which grows stronger by the day, beheads American journalists on video, and attacks the legitimacy of Saudi Arabia and the other gulf monarchies who worked hand in hand on the imperial project.

Assad is still in power and Putin’s nemesis Poroshenko waved a flag of surrender but the United States and its allies won’t give up the failing strategy because they have no other plan for keeping the leaking ship afloat. Aggression is the only weapon they have and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is the order of the day. Putin is the winner by any standard but the United States won’t admit what is obvious to the rest of the world. Instead they dredge up phony claims of Russian treaty violations and behave as if Putin hasn’t pulled off a coup of his own.

Obama and his partners in crime would do well to remember the events of September 2013, just one year ago. The United States accused Assad of using chemical weapons as a casus belli. The American people didn’t buy what their president was selling and the no vote in the British parliament crushed the effort to start a hot war.

The signs of desperation in the capitalist West are obvious. Their “rebels” in Syria can’t defeat Assad, they can’t get support among their own people for war and yet they still used Ukraine’s political crisis to take on Putin and failed. The United States is committed to making war on the rest of the planet and uses its military and economic muscle to get its way. Peace is the last thing that the Nobel Peace Prize winning president wants to see.

In light of reality in Ukraine, the recently concluded NATO summit in Wales was a truly surreal event. Even as NATO’s major undertaking crumbled, Barack Obama pretended as though nothing happened at all. The lies and aggressions make American presidents sound like delusional psychiatric patients who don’t know hallucination from reality. Just as George W. Bush made bizarre claims about aluminum tubes being a reason for an invasion of Iraq, Obama tells Estonians that they are about to be attacked by Putin.

Ukraine acknowledged that its country would be broken up among the groups it had been fighting, with special status for the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Rather than rethink its strategy, NATO announced that it was sending troops in a Rapid Response Force to Russia’s border. It seems that NATO’s motto is “nothing succeeds like failure.”

The horrible truth is that for the United States and its allies, war is peace. They will continue fanning the flames until they crush the rest of the world or ignite a war they don’t really want. The latter is more likely to happen because they actively create conflict and stand in the way of peaceful resolutions. Ukraine has been trying to sign a ceasefire for several months but always succumbed to American pressure to hang on a little longer.

Unfortunately there is more reason to fear than to rejoice at this juncture because of the insanity emanating from Washington. No one knows what our government will do next or where it will attack. We can only be certain of the uncertainty of events and that means the evil doers will not always get their way. Just ask Ukrainian president Poroshenko, the poster child of unintended consequences.

Europe saw one of the largest demonstrations in recent years: at least 1.8 million people formed an 11km red-yellow line to show their support for the upcoming independence referendum. A mosaic was made in the form of a ‘V’ for ‘vote’.

V for vote

At least 1.8 million Catalans, dressed in red and yellow, the colors of the Catalan flag, gathered on Gran Via and Avenida Diagonal, two of the main streets in Barcelona. Seen from the air, the rally formed a ‘V’ 11km long. According to the organizers, ‘V’ represented ‘vote’, ‘victory’ and ‘will’ (voluntat in Catalan).

The number of people participated in the rally – 1.8 million – even surpassed the number of population in Barcelona, which is about 1.6 million. There were more people than the whole population in Luxemburg, Lichtenstein, Monaco or Vatican.

“We want a say in politics and our future. We’ve won back our sovereignty and realized the strength we have, if we mobilize, to change things,” Carme Forcadell, head of the National Catalan Assembly (ANC), one of the organizers of the event, told Reuters.

Catalans are not the only one who want independence. Scotland is also holding an independence referendum on September 18. During the demonstration in Barcelona, people laid lanterns in the shapes of the Scottish and Catalan flags.

The UK government in London opposes independence, calling on Scots to stay in the UK. However, it has said that it will respect the decision of the voters.

The Catalan independence movement has grown from strength to strength over the last few years, gathering momentum against the backdrop of the EU financial crisis. The autonomous region of Catalonia has a population of 7.5 million and accounts for almost one-quarter of Spain’s GDP.

IDF Unit 8200 Officers Refuse to Fight Palestinians

By Richard Silverstein, Tikun Olam
September 12, 2014

43 reserve members of the IDF’s prestigious intelligence group, Unit 8200, signed a letter (original letter below) refusing to take part in operations targeting Palestinians or in furthering the military Occupation. Activists who’ve paid attention to Israeli military affairs over the past decade or more know that hundreds of soldiers and inductees have similarly refused military service in the West Bank. But this group is different. Unit 8200 is the equivalent of the NSA. It is one of the most critical weapons in the IDF arsenal to defend the nation’s security. It participates in myriad ways supporting, and even initiating IDF operations. It is the biggest intelligence unit in the Israeli army. This is the first time any such officers have publicly protested.

These refusers are not Edward Snowden. They are not spilling secrets or naming names. But their motivation for protesting against Israeli intelligence operations is almost the same as Snowden’s. They claim that there is virtually no oversight or restraint against spying on Palestinians. That there is no distinction made between innocent and guilty Palestinians. That their goal as intelligence operatives was to subvert Palestinian society from within. Here is a translation of the letter, which was addressed to the prime minister, IDF chief of staff, and Aman (intelligence) chief:

We the undersigned, veterans of Unit 8200, current and past reserve soldiers, declare that we refuse to take part in activities against the Palestinians and refuse to participate in or enable the deepening of military rule in the Occupied Territories.

There is a view that service in IDF intelligence is devoid of moral dilemmas and contributes only to preventing violence and injury to the innocent. However, during our military service we learned that intelligence is a inseparable part of military rule in the Territories. The Palestinian population, living under a military regime, is completely exposed to spying and surveillance of Israeli intelligence. As opposed to Israeli citizens and citizens of other nations, there is no supervision [“review”] of methods of gathering, tracking or using intelligence information related to the Palestinians, whether they are involved in violence or not. Information gathered damages the innocent and is used for political persecution and creating divisions within Palestinian society through recruitment of collaborators and turning of Palestinian society against itself. In many cases, intelligence prevents doing proper justice to the accused under military courts through preventing him from seeing the evidence against him. Intelligence enables continuing rule over millions of people, authority that is deep and penetrates into every facet of daily life. These things prevent normal life and spark further violence and further distance any end of the conflict.

Millions of Palestinians have lived under Israeli military rule for 47 years. This rule negates their basic rights and expropriates their lands in order to settle Jews upon them who are subject to a separate police, legal and judicial system. Such a reality is not a part of the efforts of the state to defend itself, but rather a result of a choice. Broadening the settlements has nothing to do with self-defense. Nor does limiting [Palestinan] building and development and economic exploitation of the West Bank, or the collective punishment of residents of Gaza, or the route of the Separation Wall.

In light of this, we have reached the conclusion that we who served in Unit 8200 have a responsibility for this situation and a responsibility to act. Our consciences do not permit us to continue serving this system, which damages the rights of millions of human beings. Therefore those among us who are reservists declare that we will refuse to take part in operations against Palestinians. We call upon intelligence officers, currently and in future, and all Israeli citizens, to make their voices heard against these injustices and to act to bring them to an end. We believe that Israel’s future depends on it.

In an interview with Yediot Achronot, one of the signers expanded on his objections of Israeli intelligence gathering methods. His claims echo Edward Snowden:

As a soldier in Unit 8200 I participated in gathering intelligence on people accused of attacking Israelis. But along this we gathered intelligence on those who were innocent, whose only sin was that they were of interest to the intelligence apparatus for various reasons. Reasons of which no one had any knowledge.

Every Palestinian is exposed to perpetual monitoring without any legal protection. The lowliest army personnel can decide that someone is a target for intelligence gathering. There is no process under which damage to the rights of an individual is weighed to determine if it is justified. The idea of Palestinian rights is non-existent.

The signatories also pointed to another controversial Shin Bet “recruitment” technique, by which they exploit character flaws or vulnerabilities among Palestinians in order to blackmail them to become agents. Intercepting private phone conversations, text messages, and e mails is a prime tool in this process, making Unit 8200 officers complicit.

Like Snowden, signers of the letter are also being accused by the IDF of not using normal internal channels to make their complaints known. The army claims it has internal review processes that would guarantee examination of such complaints.

Unfortunately, in one sense the refusers are on shaky legal footing regarding their claims. Not because they’re not correct in substance–they are. But because, similar to the NSA (which has virtual carte blanche regarding foreign citizens), Palestinians have no standing under Israeli law. They are not citizens and therefore are not afforded even the minimal protections offered to Israelis. One can argue that Unit 8200, like the NSA should have constraints on its operations against non-citizens. But that’s not the case.

To be honest, the letter specifies the refusers will not spy on Palestinians. But there is plenty of other objectionable Unit 8200 activity having nothing to do with Palestinians. It provides intelligence data on Israeli enemies like Hezbollah and Iran. It intercepts private communication used to assassinate militants and even officials of foreign countries. Targeted killings violate international law, whether carried out by the U.S. or Israel. This behavior is no less a product of the same spy regime which has no oversight or restraints, and which the letter criticizes.

The IDF’s response was characteristically mendacious:

The military spokesman’s office said in a statement that Unit 8200 personnel were held to ethical standards “without rival in the intelligence community in Israel or the world”, and had internal mechanisms for filing misconduct complaints.

In terms of how the intelligence personnel’s participation in this letter will be seen by the populace, they will be treated as the Justice Department has treated Snowden. They will be seen as oddballs and in certain circles as traitors. In such a view, these are the creme de la creme of society. The nation gives them everything. Entrusts them with its secrets. And they turn around and bite the hand that feeds. Shameful.

I can’t exaggerate how brave these officers have been. As those who read this blog regularly know, service in Unit 8200 is a steppingstone into Israeli high tech. It offers a wide array of professional opportunities that are not available to those who don’t serve there. Veterans network amongst each other and it’s like a Good Old Boys’ club, only more so. The signers will be blackballed. They will lose privileges, friendships, promotions. This is a big step for them.

The names of the signatories have so far been shielded from public knowledge. Though clearly the IDF knows who they are since the did sign their names to the original letter. I predict that the prime minister will find a way to leak the names.

Syrian Army Storms Militants’ Gatherings*

Syrian Army Storms Militants’ Gatherings*

Syrian Armed Forces, in heavy clashes with militants in the countryside of the capital Damascus and the Central province of Hama, killed and injured large groups of anti-government fighters in the battlefield.

Syrian soldiers, along with national defense forces, recaptured Helfaya town in the countryside of the central province of Hama, which resulted in killing, wounding, and arresting of too many militants, SANA reported.

Meantime, several insurgents were killed in army’s operations in Mourik and Kfar Zaita in Hama’s countryside.

Heavy clashes broke out between army troops and rebels of Al-Nusra Front in Joubar, Ein Tarma and the surrounding of al-Dekhaniyeh in Damascus Countryside, where too many rebels were killed and wounded.

Al-Doukhaniyeh neighborhood was also the scene of heavy clashes between army men and members of the so-called “Islamic Brigade” in which several rebels were killed, including its commander Mazen al-Na’al.

In Joubar, army killed and injured many rebels, and targeted a long convoy of their vehicles loaded with weapons and ammunitions.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.

Second Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine Makes it through Russian Customs*

Three dozen trucks with humanitarian aid from a second convoy of the Russian Emergencies Ministry have passed the Russian customs checkpoint, the spokesman for the Southern Customs Department, Rayan Farukshin has told ITAR-TASS.

“At 23:30 Moscow time on Friday Russian customs officers and border guards were through with inspecting the first group of 33 trucks. The vehicles left the border checkpoint to enter Ukrainian territory,” Farukshin said, adding that two accompanying technical support vehicles had been given clearance, too.

For the People, to the Scots*

For the People, to the Scots*

From Alexandra Bruce

The Scots have bristled for decades, while the wealth from petroleum produces some 80% of the UK’s kitty, taken from the proceeds of the North Sea oil drilling platforms and mostly distributed to the far more populous region of the UK to the South; namely England – and that, for all that their resources which they contribute to the United Kingdom’s economy, that their country has very poor representation in the UK, even if the some recent UK Prime Ministers have been of Scottish heritage. (The UK version of an Obama turn?).

‘Scotland Yet’ asks what it means to be Scottish, using personal stories to explain the current push for Scottish independence from the United Kingdom. Crowd-funded in large part by members of the separatist movement, the film spends little time arguing against Scottish independence while educating viewers on the reasoning behind the grassroots campaign to diverge from the larger UK.

As estimated by numerous polls, the Scottish separatist movement is supported by only 29-32% of the Scottish people. I have a Scottish subscriber, who considers himself a Scottish patriot, who served “for the Queen” in the Royal British Army – but who will pull up sticks and move to England, should the separatists succeed.

In this film, a variety of working class activists indulge the audience in tales of Scottish pride, with novelist and playwright Alan Bissett considering the different types of “Scottishness” – something that may be synonymous with belligerence, progressive values, and an eagerness to identify as “the underdog,” qualities which I certainly embody, as a 3rd generation American of roughly 50% Scottish descent (give or take plenty of Irish bits – endemic to the region of Argyll, from whence my folks left for the US).

Cat Boyd, a spirited young woman and member of political group Radical Independence, believes an independent Scotland would be in the best interest of representing working class voices. It is this value of working class representation that is prominent throughout the film.

Interviewees indicate Margaret Thatcher disenfranchised the working class during her time as Prime Minister; however, though many had high hopes for a subsequent Labour Party win in the form of Tony Blair was widely felt to be a letdown, in its failure to pursue traditional Labour values, most notably that of social justice.

The primary voice of dissent in the film comes from George Galloway, who claims that an independent Scotland would hurt England by permitting a never-ending reign of conservative government. Ms. Boyd counters that it is up to England to vote for the government they wish to have, and that the Scottish have no obligation to help balance England’s political scales. She takes care to emphasize that the desire for an independent Scotland does not come from any anti-Anglican sentiment, and, in fact, many English nationals are supportive of an independent Scotland.

From folk singers, authors, painters, and journalists, the majority of those interviewed here make the argument that people need to be put first beyond politics and systems. The subjects who share their stories are presented as rational, relatable people who simply want a government that will benefit the greater whole of their country after years of feeling let down by the current system.

Naturally, I find this film and the 21st century attitudes of the Scots to be amusing, as I grew up hearing legends about how, 700 years ago, my family was heavily involved in winning Scottish Independence from England.

So I dedicate this film to my recently-deceased father, Roger Bruce, who did not get to see if the Scots of today would choose to be free, in this day and age.
