Blindfolded Muslim Man Tells Parisians “Hug me if you trust me.”*

Blindfolded Muslim Man Tells Parisians “Hug me if you trust me.”*

In the wake of the attacks in France, a Muslim man took to the streets of Paris. On the floor lay two simple signs. The first read “I’m Muslim, but I’m told that I’m a terrorist”, the second, “I trust you, do you trust me? If yes, hug me”. The blindfolded man then stood still, with his arms open to passing Parisians. The response is overwhelming:

Blaming the world’s 1.6bn Muslims for the atrocities committed by an extremist fringe group is of course not the way forward, nor is it remotely fair. None of us in the West would like to have to take responsibility for the words of Donald Trump, cartoons in the Daily Mail, or Iain Duncan Smith.

Yet, Islamophobia has risen sharply since the attacks on 13 November. Another video of a Quebecois man in a joker mask, threatening to kill “one Arab a week” isn’t quite as heart warming as the experiences of the man in the blindfold. Here in the United Kingdom, a petition to close our borders to keep the country from somehow ‘becoming a Muslim country’ has over 200,000 signatures. In Toronto, on Monday, a Muslim woman was robbed and beaten by two men who called her a “terrorist”.

Four Muslim passengers were just removed from an American plane bound for Chicago for ‘suspicious activity’. What was this activity? One man was watching a news video on his phone, which someone mistook for some form of video made by Islamic State. Another woman had to rush to the bathroom with her child, while the plane was taxiing. Crystal clear racial profiling, these people were ejected from the plane for ‘riding Muslim’.

Regrettably, responding in this paranoid, hostile fashion is playing right into the hands of ISIS. They want to further the divide between Muslims and the West, to rally more disillusioned Muslims to their side. Hussein Hamdan, lawyer and part of North American Spiritual Revival (NASR), a non-profit with the aim of de-radicalising Muslim youth, explains:

“The recruitment tools that ISIS and Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations use is they say to the young Muslim, ‘Don’t you get it? The West hates you. They’re at war with your religion, they’ll never accept you … Come here, you belong here, join us we are your brothers”

Fortunately, the blindfolded man on the streets of Paris is not the only example of people responding to the trauma of the last few days with compassion; another is Dr. Susan Carland – a Muslim woman. For every hate-tweet she receives, she donates $1 to UNICEF. Her donations have nearly reached $1,000, and while it is saddening that the hate-tweets are evidently mounting rapidly, it is equally brightening that someone has found a way of literally converting hate to love.

This is the kind of response we need more of if we are to bring about peace.

U.S. Government Admits Social Security Going Bankrupt*

U.S. Government Admits Social Security Going Bankrupt*

For years now, government agencies, politicians, economists and pundits have tried to sound the alarm over the federal government’s out-of-control spending and spiraling national debt.
The predictions of dire financial consequences have actually been widely publicized in the mainstream. In July 2014, for example, The Hill reported on an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office that Congress’ and the White House’s inability to control or reform entitlement spending – considered to be politically radioactive by members of both parties – is collapsing the budget.

The Hill reported further:

The CBO said the rising costs of entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security as the U.S. population continues to age are the drivers of U.S. debt.

“Debt would be on an upward path relative to the size of the economy, a trend that could not be sustained indefinitely,” the CBO report said.
Unbelievable honesty – for a change

And in August 2015, Reuters reported that the current trajectory of entitlement spending – boosted in large part by taxpayer-supported health insurance subsidies mandated under Obamacare – is simply unsustainable:

[T]he brighter near-term picture does not change the CBO’s longstanding view that the still-growing federal debt is unsustainable. The CBO forecast that public debt would grow from about 74 percent of gross domestic product now to about 77 percent in 2025.

One of the most costly of federal entitlement programs is Social Security. Begun in 1935 during the Great Depression – signed then by a liberal Democrat, Franklin D. Roosevelt – it was passed over the objections of fiscally conservative politicians who were keenly aware of the law’s long-term financial implications for future generations, Simon Black noted in a piece for SovereignMan.com.

Ironically, when he signed the measure into law, Roosevelt said Social Security would serve “as a protection to future administrations of the Government against the necessity of going deeply into debt to furnish relief to the needy,” Black wrote.

Except Social Security, like Obamacare, delivered exactly the opposite of what was promised (do you see a pattern here?).

Officially, the U.S. government is operating business as usual; unofficially, however – and realistically – the federal government is broke. It is nearly $19 trillion in debt – $9 trillion more than when Barack Obama took office – and there is no indication that there is enough political will on Capitol Hill to make the necessary changes in law to a) keep Social Security solvent; and, thus, b) keep America solvent.

At present, various Social Security trust funds hold about $2.7 trillion in assets but, as Black notes, the government’s own estimates show about $40 trillion in liabilities. What’s more, Social Security’s second-largest trust fund, the Disability Insurance fund, is set to go broke in a matter of weeks.

“The trustees who manage these massive funds on behalf of the current and future retirees of America are clearly concerned,” Black noted.

Tens of millions of Americans haven’t saved anything for retirement

As reported by Black, the 2015 report of the Social Security and Medicare Board of Trustees plainly states:

“Social Security as a whole as well as Medicare cannot sustain projected long-run program costs…”, and that the government should be “giving the public adequate time to prepare.”

That is about as clear as it gets: There won’t be enough money in the future to cover the government’s promises of benefits, period. It doesn’t get more plain.

And yet, we are always hearing politicians say, “Social Security is just fine and will continue to be.” So are these trustees just political hacks or outright wackos?

Neither, it turns out. One of the trustees is the Treasury Secretary, Jacob Lew. Others include Labor Secretary Thomas E. Perez, Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, and others. They are the ones who sign their names to the reports saying that Social Security is going broke and that the government should be giving Americans time to prepare.

And Americans should be preparing, because, as the U.S. Government Accountability Office said recently in a report, tens of millions of Americans have not saved a red cent for their retirement.

Can you say “collapse of the civil society”?

Iraq Arrests ISIS Advisors, U.S. and Israelis Held*

By Jeffrey Phillips

Iraqi Special Forces said they have arrested several ISIL’s foreign military advisors, including American, Israeli and Arab nationals in an operation in Mosul in the Northern parts of the country.

The Iraqi forces said they have retrieved four foreign passports, including those that belonged to American and Israeli nationals and one that belonged to the national of a Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member-state, from ISIL’s military advisors.

The foreign advisors were arrested in a military operation in Tal Abta desert near Mosul city.

Last year, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin accused MOSSAD of training ISIL terrorists operating in Iraq and Syria.

Alexander Prokhanov said that MOSSAD is also likely to have transferred some of its spying experiences to the ISIL leadership, adding that Israel’s military advisors could be assisting the Takfiri terrorists.

Prokhanov said ISIL is a byproduct of U.S. policies in the Middle East.

ISIL is a tool at the hands of the United States. They tell the Europeans that if we (the Americans) do not intervene, ISIL will cause you harm,” he said, adding that Iran and Russia are the prime targets of the ISIL.

“They launched their first terror attack against us just a few days back in Chechnya,” he said, stressing that the ISIL ideology has got nothing to do with the Islam practiced in Iran and some other Muslim countries in the Middle East region.

Prokhanov said the United States and Israel are one and the same when it comes to supporting a terror organization like the ISIL.
