Einstein’s Letter to His Daughter about the Universal Force of Love*

Einstein’s Letter to His Daughter about the Universal Force of Love*

By John Vibes

Below is a letter that Albert Einstein wrote to his daughter about the universal force of love. The letter was released in the 1980’s along with over a thousand other letters that he wrote to different people.

“When I proposed the theory of relativity, very few understood me, and what I will reveal now to transmit to mankind will also collide with the misunderstanding and prejudice in the world.

I ask you to guard the letters as long as necessary, years, decades, until society is advanced enough to accept what I will explain below.

There is an extremely powerful force that, so far, science has not found a formal explanation to. It is a force that includes and governs all others, and is even behind any phenomenon operating in the universe and has not yet been identified by us. This universal force is LOVE.

When scientists looked for a unified theory of the universe they forgot the most powerful unseen force. Love is Light, that enlightens those who give and receive it. Love is gravity, because it makes some people feel attracted to others. Love is power, because it multiplies the best we have, and allows humanity not to be extinguished in their blind selfishness. Love unfolds and reveals. For love we live and die. Love is God and God is Love.

This force explains everything and gives meaning to life. This is the variable that we have ignored for too long, maybe because we are afraid of love because it is the only energy in the universe that man has not learned to drive at will.

To give visibility to love, I made a simple substitution in my most famous equation. If instead of E = mc2, we accept that the energy to heal the world can be obtained through love multiplied by the speed of light squared, we arrive at the conclusion that love is the most powerful force there is, because it has no limits.

After the failure of humanity in the use and control of the other forces of the universe that have turned against us, it is urgent that we nourish ourselves with another kind of energy…

If we want our species to survive, if we are to find meaning in life, if we want to save the world and every sentient being that inhabits it, love is the one and only answer.

Perhaps we are not yet ready to make a bomb of love, a device powerful enough to entirely destroy the hate, selfishness and greed that devastate the planet.

However, each individual carries within them a small but powerful generator of love whose energy is waiting to be released.

When we learn to give and receive this universal energy, dear Lieserl, we will have affirmed that love conquers all, is able to transcend everything and anything, because love is the quintessence of life.

I deeply regret not having been able to express what is in my heart, which has quietly beaten for you all my life. Maybe it’s too late to apologize, but as time is relative, I need to tell you that I love you and thanks to you I have reached the ultimate answer! “.

Your father,
Albert Einstein

Police Standby While KKK Members Go on Stabbing Rampage Against Protesters In California*

By M. David, Reagan Ali

Even though the police knew about the Klan rally in advance, and had been warned of the potential for violent altercations, there was no police presence at the scene, until after the stabbing spree was carried out against counter-protesters who came to call out the Klan hate rally.

As klansmen exited a black SUV, trying to unload and unfurl a “White Lives Matter” signs from the back, protesters swarmed the to voice their discontent with the racist group trying to intimidate Latinos and African Americans in Southern California.

But after the groups yelled a few insults at each other, one klansman decided to initiate violence against the protesters.

“He was using the American flag as a spear,” Tyler Valdez, an eye-witness who was at the park said.

“One [counter-protester] got hit on the side and started bleeding,” Israel Carrasco, another eye-witness, recounted.

Yet another protester was slashed with a knife behind the SUV while this was happening.

OC Weekly reports that he “bled profusely all over the sidewalk.”

“The Klan stabbed three people in all, one with critical injuries. In the pandemonium, protesters smashed the front window of the Klan Klown Kar and slashed its rear tires.

The Klan Klown Kar sped off down Cypress Street and turned left on Lemon Street. The Klukker with the flag sporting a “Grand Dragon” shirt got left behind—could it have been Bill Quigg, the head of the Loyal White Knights of the KKK who whined we were mean to him? “He ended up falling on the ground getting kicked and punched by protesters,” Valdez added. “People started jumping in to try to break it up.” The Klansman’s flag laid crumpled in the middle of the street with blood stains all over it.”

It was “only after all the mayhem at the park ended” that the Anaheim police patrol cars rolled up “to take control of the scene.”

They arrested two KKKers and hauled several protesters off in cuffs. The Klan Klown Kar stopped on the north side of the park by Lemon Street  and Sycamore Street with cops questioning Klukkers there. When the public information officer Sgt. Daron Wyatt spotted me, he asked if I had seen anything. I later tracked him down for any interview. He couldn’t give me details on the number of arrests and stabbings at the time, but I did ask where the visible police presence had been since I got to Pearson Park at 10 a.m..

“We’ve been here all day,” Wyatt claimed.” You know, Gabriel we don’t talk about our staffing and deployment, but we were here.”

Still, reporters from OC Weekly explain that they “didn’t see any uniformed police, even with children playing at the park on a sunny Saturday. And then the Klan came to town.”

It should be stressed that though the counter protesters verbally confronted the klansmen, physical violence was initiated by the Klan members, according to reporters from OC Weekly.

So that raises the question of why the police would stand back – whether they were there as they claim, or not – and allow this violent clash to occur?

While the bulk of Hollywood’s elite was at the Oscars, Black filmmakers, singers and entertainers gathered for the #JusticeforFlint fundraiser to raise over $100,000 for the city’s water crisis.

Organized by Creed director Ryan Coogler, the fundraiser has served as a response to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and the environmental racism that poisoned the water supply in the majority-Black Michigan community. The multi-year long mess has led to long-term health effects for residents, and it also highlighted political corruption in the highest branches of the Michigan state government.

The #JusticeForFlint event was part of Coogler’s Black Out For Human Rights initiative that encourages activism among Black celebrities.

“A concern that we had was, at this event, to give [Flint residents] a voice. Humanize the issue,” Coogler said in an interview with The Root prior to the event.

“We wanted to make sure that we give them a good night of entertainment. They’re a group of resilient people. But what they needed really is a break. To laugh and have fun.”

Director Ava DuVernay and actor Jesse Williams were also at the forefront of the initiative. Others included Janelle Monae and Stevie Wonder, who performed on stage together.

According to Revolt TV, “Michigan artists, including Detroiters Royce Da 5’9”, Denaun Porter and Dej Loaf took the stage, as did Flint native Jon Connor and the Saginaw-born Wonder. [In addition] Vic Mensa premiered a new song, “16 Shots,” to honour the shooting of Chicago native Laquan McDonald.”

The event was streamed live during the Oscars and is still available online for those who missed it.

Twitter users showed a lot of love for the biggest performers of the night.

Bank Bail-outs Behind Behind U.K.’s Collapsing Public Services*

Anyone following David Cameron’s negotiations with the E.U., or the subsequent ‘in-out’ referendum debate in Britain, would perhaps forgiven for believing that migration is the cause of all Britain’s woes.

Cameron himself has been cultivating the link in voters’ minds between migration and public service decline since at least 2013, when he made clear his desire to prevent migrants from accessing public services, including even the NHS.

But what began as just another piece of rightly-riduculed Tory vindictiveness has now reached a crescendo. Cameron’s recent push for an ’emergency brake’ on migrants’ benefits has served to deepen the false impression that it is migration that is putting public services under strain, a point which Theresa May has now been making explicitly.

“Immigration at this level”, she said, referring to recent figures putting net migration at 323,000 over the past year, “puts pressure on public services, on housing, on infrastructure – it can hold down wages and push British workers out of jobs”.

Public services are indeed coming under pressure, as made clear by recent reports that the NHS faces collapse or comments by leading children’s charity Barnado’s that the government is ‘no longer providing an adequate safety net’ for the poorest families, with ‘devastating effects’ for vulnerable youngsters. The wages of many are stagnating as well, with local government workers seeing their wages fall by 20% between 2010 and 2013, and a quarter of those working in social care in Britain now thought to be effectively working for below the minimum wage. The poorest 10% of the population, according to the Guardian, have seen their wages effectively slashed by 30%.

But are immigrants behind all this?

What the government would dearly love us to forget all about is what happened to the British economy and public finances in 2008 – and why.

At the beginning of 2008, the U.K.’s public debt (that is, money owed by the government to its creditors) stood at 43% of GDP. By the end of the year that debt had increased to 153% of GDP – it had more than tripled, that is, in the space of just one year.

This massive jump was due to one reason alone. That reason was not ‘profligate spending’ on public services, nor was it shelling out on migrant benefits (for example, on that 0.5% of recent E.U. migrants who claim job seekers allowance). It was due solely to the ‘banker’s bailout’. The government poured 133 billion pounds into banks such as RBS and Lloyds to prevent their bankruptcy, and guaranteed dodgy assets and loans by these and other banks to the tune of well over one trillion pounds, leaving the public purse on the hook for the risky investments made by over-confident city boys on six and seven figure salaries.

The money to fund that bailout was borrowed on private markets, charging an average of 4.2% interest per year. We have been paying that interest ever since; indeed interest payments on Britain’s debt – 2/3 of which, we must never forget, was incurred by bailing out the banks – last year reached £1billion per week, for the first time in history. That amounts to just under £1000 per year for every man, woman and child in the country, just on interest payments on a debt which was mostly the result of the bankers’ bailout.

© Eddie Keogh / Reuters

However, it is not only the bailout itself which has led to Britain’s growing debt, but the overall impact of the financial crisis as well. The 2007-2008 banking crisis – caused by the souring of bad loans made by private banks – led directly to a recession from which the world has yet to recover. This recession, like all recessions, had the effect of lowering tax receipts for the government, and increasing the numbers forced to seek unemployment benefit.

Professor Desmond, former treasury adviser and dean of Social Sciences at Sussex University, conducted a study into the wider economic impact of the banking crisis, concluding that

“I have estimated taking into account the losses of output that would have occurred since 2008 without the financial crisis caused by the reckless lending of the banks, and projecting the losses forward until the end of 2012, that the total cost to the economy – all of us – is around 11 to 13% of GDP”, a truly massive sum equating to over one quarter of the country’s public spending bill.

The banking sector itself, meanwhile, has been doing fine. While RBS – which received £45 billion of public money in 2008 – has been recording losses every year ever since (most recently £1.9 billion, it was announced this week), it has still found fit to prioritize paying massive bonuses to its staff way above paying back the government.

In 2010, RBS paid over £1 billion in bonuses to staff and in 2013, after yet another year of losses, it announced that 93 of its staff would be receiving over £1 million each. This is a straightforward looting of the public purse.

Bankers have also managed to massively reduce their tax bill since 2008, further adding to pressure on public finances and straining public services. Research by the London School of Economics last year found that

“Corporation Tax receipts from the banks in current prices have declined from £7.0 billion in 2005-6 to just £1.3 billion in 2011-12, £2.3 billion in 2012-13 and £1.6 billion in 2013-14.”

However, they noted, “surprisingly, the fall is not because of a collapse in these banks’ global operating profits, which were actually marginally higher in the three years 2010-12, after the bailout, than in 2005-7, in the boom before the crisis.” Rather, the study claimed,

“During the period of our study, the government has exempted some components of overseas income from U.K. taxation. This has created new opportunities for tax avoidance.”

Having pumped money into the hands of the banking class in its time of need, the government is apparently determined not to get it back during times of profit.

Another rarely-mentioned component of Britain’s crisis in public finances is the PFI scandal. PFI – the Private Finance Initiative – has been used by both Labour and Tory governments as a means of keeping government spending ‘off the books’ by encouraging private companies to build and operate infrastructure such as hospitals and schools, with the government paying them for the use of these services. This saves the government having to pay the upfront costs of building such projects but means they end up paying far more in the long term having to ‘rent’ them back from the private companies.

In 2011, the Centre for Policy Studies wrote a report suggesting that whilst official public debt stood at £2.252 trillion, this figure did not include “projects financed through PFI, unfunded public sector pension liabilities, nor contingent liabilities such as Network Rail.” Including these ‘hidden’ liabilities, they calculated, brought the total public debt up to £3.65 trillion.

And PFI – by forcing public bodies to pay through the nose for using ‘private’ schools and hospitals – is directly leading to the bankruptcy of hospitals. A 2014 inquiry by the Public Accounts Committee found that those NHS providers most reliant on PFI have the worst financial results, and four of the six most indebted NHS trusts (with debts of over £25 each) had PFI schemes (compared to less than a third of all providers).

Britain’s budget deficit has been growing, then, mainly due to the interest payments on debts incurred by the banker’s bailout, the overall impact of the recession caused by the reckless lending of the banks, and the massive payouts to the private sector resulting from PFI.

Meanwhile the country’s wealthiest private companies and individuals have been doing very well, despite the recession (or perhaps even because of it, as their smaller competitors are driven out of business). Already by the financial year 2010-2011, the country’s 1000 richest individuals had increased their wealth by over £60 billion, according the Sunday Times Rich List, and a similar story has been told every year since then, to the point where the richest 1 percent of the British population now own more than half the wealth.

The real story of pressure on Britain’s public services, then, is of the British government facilitating the looting of public funds by bankers and PFI investors, whilst demanding that the costs be paid by massive public spending cuts in the form of ‘austerity’.

In John Lanchester’s excellent ‘Whoops!‘, a layman’s guide to the financial crisis, he writes that the debt incurred by the bankers bailout

“is going to cost from £35 to £47 billion per year to service….we’ll be spending more on debt than we are on the entire transport budget. All this means tax rises, a near-total freeze on government spending, swingeing public sector job cuts, companies laying off every worker they can to save costs….As the bill is paid, and especially as taxes go up while services and jobs go away, people are going to get steadily and inexorably more furious. I’m not sure at whom: I hope it’s at the responsible bodies, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Public rage is like lightning, and tends to discharge its energies at anyone who has the bad luck to be in the wrong place at the wrong time”.

This is precisely what is happening with migrants. They are being scapegoated for a collapse in public services that is the inevitable consequence of the government’s policy of transferring wealth from public sector to the private, a collapse which would still be occurring even if not a single foreigner had set foot on British soil in the last twenty years (indeed, it would likely be far worse, given their role in actually providing Britain’s public services, as low paid workers). Where Lanchester is wrong, however, is that this is simply bad luck.

Knowing their own culpability, the British government are willfully and cynically directing anger away from themselves and the billionaire class they represent, and towards some of the most vulnerable in society. It is the oldest trick in the book.

Outrage as U.K.School Calls Police after Pupil Looks at Ukip Website in Class*

By Nick Gutteridge

A schoolboy was hauled out of class and interrogated by detectives after politically correct teachers reported him to the POLICE for visiting the UKIP website.

Father, Mick Taylor was left outraged after a school called police after his son visited the Ukip website

Teenager Joe Taylor was flagged up for political extremism by the deputy head after he used a school computer to click on the party’s website.

The 15-year-old went online earlier this week to research immigration following a classroom discussion on the subject, logging on with his school username.

But he was stunned when teachers subsequently reported him to the police, claiming he had raised welfare concerns by visiting “politically incorrect websites”.

Amazingly he was referred to a specialist team whose usual brief is preventing vulnerable youngsters from being groomed and indoctrinated by Islamic State (ISIS) jihadis.

The youngster, who attends Wildern School in Hedge End, Southampton, was then hauled out of class on Wednesday morning so that he could be quizzed by an officer from Hampshire police.

During the interrogation the detective reportedly accused the youngster of being a UKIP “activist” and said it was “not right” that he had visited the party’s website.

Police said the contact with the teen was not solely sparked by accessing the Ukip website.

UKIP said the revelations were “astonishing” and provided further evidence of a “pervasive left-wing culture” amongst public sector workers.

The party’s candidate for Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) also raised concerns that teachers and officers may be carrying out an “anti-UKIP campaign” to influence young people.

The shocking intervention only came to light after Joe’s dad Mick contacted to express his outrage at the treatment of his son, who spends much of his spare time caring for his nan who suffered a stroke six months ago.

He revealed that he received a phone call from teachers at Wildern on Monday morning telling him the police had been contacted over his son’s internet use, and asking him to attend a meeting with officers on Wednesday.

When he arrived he was informed that Joe’s access to the UKIP website had flagged up safety concerns, which had been passed on to the police’s specialist radicalisation team.

Mr Taylor, 52, said:

“On Monday I receive a phone call and they said he’s been looking at some politically incorrect material at school.

“My first reaction was to ask them if it was porn, but they said no – it was the UKIP website. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“We went into reception with the police officer and their first question to my son was ‘why are you a political activist for UKIP’?

“I asked why are you worried about the UKIP website and they said ‘well, we don’t think it’s right’.”

Mr Taylor said his son had also accessed the English Defence League (EDL) website before Christmas after the pair watched a BBC documentary by former leader Tommy Robinson.

The UKIP voter said he regularly discusses political issues including immigration and the E.U. with his son, but that he is free to form his own world opinions.

He said: “I was furious that they flagged him for looking at the UKIP website. I think it’s outrageous really.

“They tried to call him a political activist for UKIP and they asked him ‘why do you believe that’s the way forward?’

“I’m a UKIP supporter and I said ‘what’s wrong with that?’ They really quizzed him over UKIP.

“They are almost like the thought police. It’s shocking really.”

He added: “They were trying to quiz him on all this stuff, whether he’d gone to Luton [for the EDL march in November 2014].

“They said we have to do it, you could be being groomed by the EDL.

Mr Taylor said the shocking revelations raise serious questions over how many people with mainstream political views are being monitored over supposed extremism.

He said: “I just find it in this day and age that you’re being monitored, so are we in a free society? That’s what it comes down to.

“The main thing I’m very angry about is people are being monitored in school. I can understand if it’s ISIS, but when someone’s just looking at the UKIP website it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Responding to the revelations, UKIP’s education spokeswoman Louise Bours said:

“It is absolutely outrageous that a school is trying to censor its students in this way. Teachers are supposed to promote learning and understanding, not narrow their pupils’ world view and stifle debate.

“I find it astonishing beyond belief that officers saw fit to interview a child who was simply trying to complete his homework and I am deeply disturbed that both the police and this school appear to consider UKIP an extremist organisation.

“UKIP is Britain’s third largest political party and was backed by four million voters at the last General Election. This is just another shocking example of the pervasive left-wing culture which has infected large parts of Britain’s public service.”

UKIP’s Hampshire PCC candidate Roy Swales added:

“This is a worrying incident. I can only assume that the police and some educators are engaged in an anti UKIP campaign to prevent young people looking at our party.

“As a candidate for Police Commissioner I am troubled that the police may be covertly attempting to influence the election in May.”

In a statement head teacher Marie-Louise Litton said:

“Following an incident Wildern School contacted 101 for advice and were referred to the specialist team who made the decision to arrange a meeting with the student and their parent in school on 24th February. No further action was proposed.”

The Department for Education said that assessing what material pupils are accessing online is largely a matter for individual schools.

This month the department has finished carrying out a consultation with schools and parents about how to keep children safe – including issues around Internet access – with the results now being assessed.

Hampshire Police said they had informal contact with the pupil after concerns were raised about his internet usage.

A spokeswoman said the contact was not solely down to accessing the Ukip website but said that may have come up during the discussion.

Hampshire Police and the school were happy that no formal action needed to be taken.

Libya’s Interim Government Blasts U.S. Aggression*

By Stephen Lendman

On February 19, U.S. warplanes bombed Libya, on the phony pretext of targeting ISIS and an alleged Tunisian terrorist – a flagrant act of aggression, violating core international law.

Two Serbian nationals were killed among other fatalities, America guilty of mass murder, longstanding U.S. policy – civilians harmed most in all its wars.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic “demanded explanations from the U.S. about whether they knew that foreigners were present at the site” struck.

Given sophisticated US intelligence, saying they didn’t doesn’t wash. Human lives and welfare don’t matter, imperial objectives only.

The interim Libyan government blasted U.S. aggression, calling it a grave violation of its sovereignty, a statement saying:

It “strongly condemns the airstrikes carried out by the U.S. Air Force at certain positions in the town of Sabratha on Friday morning, February 19, 2016, without any coordination or consultation with the interim Libyan government.”

“Any interference, similar to the one that has taken place, will be considered an open and flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Libyan state and international law.”

“(A)ny military or political interference into Libyan affairs should be performed in a legal way through parliament and the newly formed government.”

It holds the U.S.-led international (Western) community fully responsible for “the worsening…domestic economic and social situation, as well as the security situation that contribute(s) to the (infestation and) spread of” ISIS terrorists in the country.

The Pentagon called mass murder a major success – typical U.S. arrogance, forcing its will on other nations, naked aggression its strategy of choice.

Is Libya 2.0 imminent? Does Washington complicit with its imperial partners intend repeating their 2011 nightmare – naked aggression by any standard?

They raped North Africa’s most developed country, transforming it into a dystopian wasteland, murdering tens of thousands, displacing many more, creating unspeakable human misery.

Are horrors they inflicted about to be repeated? America’s killing machine partnered with rogue allies shows no mercy, human life and welfare of no consequence.

Its endless wars of aggression reveal its sinister dark side, pure evil threatening humanity’s survival.

Palestinians in Ramallah urge boycott of Israeli goods

Hundreds of Palestinians, including lawmakers, held a demonstration in the occupied West Bank Saturday, calling for the boycott of Israeli products.

Marching through the streets in Ramallah City, the demonstrators urged people worldwide to unite against the Tel Aviv regime and put an immediate embargo on Israeli goods.

The demonstration was part of a campaign that is a coalition of worldwide organizations established a decade ago, which advocates boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel, known as the BDS movement.

Thousands of volunteers worldwide have joined the BDS ever since to help promote the Palestinian cause.

The demonstration in Ramallah came amid a surging wave of violence in the West Bank, where about 190 Palestinians have been killed in clashes with Israelis over the past few months. The violence, which erupted in early October 2015, has also killed more than two dozen Israelis.

During the Saturday demonstration, the protesters called on all institutions and administrative offices run by the Palestinian Authority to boycott products made in the occupied Palestinian territories. They also urged the PA to step up efforts at the international level to pressure Israel through the BDS movement.

In a related incident earlier this week, a group of BDS supporters at the University of South Florida in the United States interrupted lectures by two Israelis in their college. Some 25 members of the movement, waving Palestinian flags and banners, entered the lecture hall and chanted slogans against the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

When the callous white police officer responds to the Black Lives Matter movement with the retort that “Blue lives matter,” is that a heartfelt sentiment?  What of the Black cop?  Although certainly there are African-American police officers who have internalized the racial oppression of a career that originated with the slave patrols, others have refused to betray their Blackness and have challenged the system instead.

There is a reason Black police officers have Black police associations.  Obviously, the dominant law enforcement associations and unions fail to address the needs of Black officers.  But for that badge, hat and gun, Black officer, you are one of the multitude of Black faces you patrol — the folks who get stopped and harassed for doing nothing, and who may even find themselves brutalized and shot dead if they aren’t careful.

The police culture is all about the blue mentality, but it is also a white mentality, where a culture of racism and brutality have been ingrained since the plantation days.  Like a gang, it is an indoctrination process, with punishment and retaliation for those who fight against the system and refuse to abide by the rules.  Changing the institution from the inside is laudable, though a hard sell.  Consider the case of Edwin Raymond, a Black NYPD officer who was the subject of a New York Times Magazine story by Saki Knafo.

Raymond — the son of a Haitian immigrant family and a racially- and socially-conscious Black man — believed he could reform “New York’s Finest” internally.  And he was in for a rude awakening.  Ultimately, he joined a lawsuit of a dozen Black officers who sued their own department for racism, even secretly recording conversations he had with his superiors.  Raymond and others refused to follow the NYPD policy of quotas for arrests and summonses, a race-based practice in which officers were pressured to boost arrests of Blacks and Latinos but  stay away from whites and Asians.

An award-winning officer who placed at number eight on the sergeant’s exam, Raymond was passed over for promotions and given abysmal performance reviews because he would not toe the line and make a sufficient number of arrests.  Raymond was a Black man in a police force that is only 16% Black and whose top ranks are less than 7% Black, according to the Marshall Project.  The population of New York City is only one third white, but a mostly white police force patrols over an overwhelmingly Black, Latino and Asian population.

Here is a conversation Raymond secretly taped with his supervisor, Sgt. Martin Campbell, also Black, over a bad performance review that Campbell was ordered to write by his own boss:

What is the issue with me?’’ he asked Campbell. ‘‘Just the activity, the quota?’’

Campbell laughed. ‘‘What do you think, bro?’’

‘‘Man,’’ Raymond said.

‘‘Honestly, what do you think?’’

‘‘But it has to be more,’’ Raymond said, “because technically, when it comes to numbers—”

‘‘No, no, no,’’ Campbell said. ‘‘There’s not more. That’s it.’’

And yet that wasn’t it — at least, Raymond didn’t think so. There were other officers in the district, not many, but some, whose numbers were even lower than his.

‘‘You really want me to tell you what I think it is?’’ Campbell asked.

‘‘Of course, because I need to understand this.’’

‘‘You’re a young black man with dreads. Very smart, very intelligent, have a loud say, meaning your words is loud. You understand what I’m saying by that?’’

‘‘I never seen anything like this, bro,’’ Campbell said.

Meanwhile, even as Raymond was denied promotions, he was asked to participate in a process where Police Commissioner William Bratton asked people on and off the force to brainstorm ideas for improving the police department. Bratton, who ran the police in the 1990s under the infamous Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, was a primary cheerleader of “broken windows” policing that has ensnared young Black and Latino men in the criminal justice system over minor, noncriminal “quality of life” offenses — if they are offenses at all.

Hundreds of thousands of innocent men of colour were targeted in a “stop and frisk” policy that labelled them as suspicious, potential criminals because of their skin.  And now, Mayor Bill de Blasio has asked Bratton to return to his old job.  Raymond recalled when he met with Deputy Commissioner of Personnel Michael Julian and other NYPD bigwigs to make the case for his own promotion:

“I want to hire a thousand of you,’’ [Julian] said. He hadn’t conjured that exact number out of thin air. Julian, who is white, had recently been assigned the task of coordinating the recruitment of 1,000 black officers. That summer, the 57 black men and 25 black women who graduated from the academy represented less than 10 percent of the graduating class — the lowest percentage of black graduates in 20 years.  In an interview with The Guardian, Bratton blamed the scarcity of black recruits on the prevalence of criminal records in black neighborhoods. Too many of the city’s black men had ‘‘spent time in jail and, as such, we can’t hire them,’’ The Guardian quoted him as saying. (Bratton later said the newspaper took the quote out of context.)

Along with the other executives at the hearing, Julian had already reviewed Raymond’s documents. He noted that Raymond had called in sick only once in seven years. ‘‘You don’t get sick,’’ he said, his voice rising with enthusiasm. ‘‘There’s a lot of good about you.’’

Black cops are pressured to arrest their own people for no reason at all but to fill a bogus arrest quota. And they are kept down by a white leadership structure.  And then we wonder why there is a problem in law enforcement, or why there is a need for a Black Lives Matter movement.
