Anonymous Strikes the Heart of the Empire — Takes Down U.S. Federal Reserve Bank*

After announcing a global call to arms against the “corrupt global banking cartel,” the hacker collective known as Anonymous, in conjunction with numerous other hacktivist groups, have taken over 20 central banks offline, including striking at the heart of the Western imperialist empire; the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the Bank of England and the Bank of France.

A press release by Anonymous explained in the intentions behind the operation know as #OpIcarus:

“The banks have been getting away with murder, fraud, conspiracy, war profiteering, money laundering for terrorists and drug cartels, have put millions of people out on the street without food or shelter and have successfully bought all our governments to help keep us silenced. We represent the voice of the voiceless. We are uniting to make a stand. The central banks which were attacked in recent days were attacked to remind people that the biggest threat we face to an open and free society is the banks. The bankers are the problem and #OpIcarus is the solution.”

Operation Icarus was relaunched in conjunction with a video release announcing the beginning of a “30-day campaign against central bank sites across the world.” Since that time, the scope and magnitude of the attacks have increased exponentially, with Anonymous, Ghost Squad Hackers, a number of Sec groups and BannedOffline coordinating attacks — each focusing on separate financial institutions in an effort to maximize the number of targets hit.

Some individuals have expressed reservations about Anonymous attacking the central banking system – thinking that this will in some way impact their individual accounts held in the banks. In an exclusive interview with The Free Thought Project, an Anonymous member explained that this operation is directed solely at the 1%:

“We would just like to make it very clear that all targets of #OpIcarus have been Rothschild and BIS central owned banks. In fact most of the targets so far such as Guernsey, Cyprus, Panama, Jordan, British Virgin Isles, etc are in the top 10 places of tax havens for the elite. No on-line consumer accounts were harmed, no ATM’s were blocked and no personal client data was leaked. This has been a protest against the Central Banks and the 1% — no innocent or poor people were harmed”

The operation began with an initial attack on the Central Bank of Greece and was quickly followed up with a similar DDoS attack on the Central Bank of Cyprus. Last weekend, hackers reportedly targeted the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, the Dutch Central Bank, the Central Bank of Maldives, and Guernsey Financial Services Commission, according to the official @OpIcarus Twitter account, which has been taken offline — presumably by Twitter. The National Bank of Panama and the Central Bank of Kenya were also reportedly targeted a day later, according to hacking news publication HackRead.

Additionally, reported Ghost Squad Hacker, s1ege also tweeted about taking the Central Bank of Bosnia-Herzegovina offline and provided a screenshot to verify. The Twitter account @BannedOffline also reported the Central Bank of Mexico had succumbed to a DDoS attack by the hacking collective. The online hacktivist groups have continued to conduct a series of high-powered distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, which forced the website of Central Bank of Jordan, Central Bank of South Korea, Bank of Compagnie, Monegasque and the Central Bank of Montenegro offline.

On Saturday, hackers conducted a series of 250 Gbps DDoS attacks on the Bank of France, Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, Central Bank of Tunisia, Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago and Philippine National Bank. The recent attack, on Monday morning, took down the Central Bank of Iraq.

In the most high-profile hacks thus far, during OpIcarus, the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the Bank of England and the Bank of France all fell victim to separate cyber attacks.

In an exclusive interview with The Free Thought Project, an Anonymous representative explained:

“OpIcarus in support of Nuit Debout took the bank of France off line throughout the day as we continue to address the corruption of the banking elite. We are acting on behalf of the countless victims and the voiceless as the banking cartels continue their agenda of buying the governments while selling out the people they are supposed to govern. This Op in no way is meant to harm or disrupt the common person and their day-to-day activities. We are you, we may be your neighbors, those you pass in the street and we are the working class. A Filipino hacker within Anonymous was also able to disrupt services in the Philippines as an act of protest against his nation’s corrupt and brutal government. We will not and cannot sit by idly while the banking systems strip man of his dignity.

Anonymous has released a list of institutions the collective plans to target, which is divided into four sections; websites associated with the U.S. Federal Reserve, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), sites owned by the World Bank, and over 150 sites associated with national banks around the globe. In two weeks, OpIcarus hackers have hit dozens of financial institutions listed in their online manifesto. Any questions about whether the hacktivists would be able to take out some of the more high-profile institutions seem to have been answered with the recent successful attacks on the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank in Boston, the Bank of France and the Bank of England — the central banks of the U.K. and France. The attack on the Bank of England was unique from the previous attacks, as it reportedly took down the internal email server.

While some have questioned the effectiveness of OpIcarus, senior director at Corero Network Security, Stephanie Weagle told Info Security magazine:

“While the impact on the individual targets of the DDoS attack campaign, ‘OpIcarus’ is unclear; obstructing or eliminating the availability of email servers is significant. In an online world any type of service outage is barely tolerated, especially in the banking industry where transactions and communications are often time-sensitive, and account security is of utmost importance.”

Make no mistake that this operation has already been extremely effective — evolving and growing rapidly. In the world of high finance time is money, and every minute that a bank is forced offline it is losing potential revenue, which in turn hurts the bottom line of those that support the imperial war machine. Thus far, all targeted banks have refused to comment on the damage inflicted by the continuous cyber attacks.

India Prevents Indigenous Activist from Attending a Meeting in the U.K.*

Last Monday Indian Government authorities prevented well-known Indian indigenous rights activist Gladson Dungdung from boarding a flight to the U.K., sparking outcry from the international community who have condemned what appears to be a politically motivated move to muzzle the voices of India’s Indigenous Peoples, known collectively in India as Adivasi.

One of IC’s longest contributors, the Adivasi author and human rights defender was travelling to the U.K. to attend a conference on mining and environmental history in South Asia at the University of Sussex. He had been invited to talk about the struggle of two Adivasi communities working to protect Saranda Forest.

The story of Saranda forms the subject of Gladson’s latest book, Mission Saranda: A War for Natural Resources in India. In its contentious pages, Galdson examines the rapacious efforts of mining companies to exploit the ancestral home of 125,000 Adivasi people as part of the Indian Government’s development plans in the region.

Muzzling the critics of ‘development’

The plan to exploit the minerals that lie beneath Saranda is part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government’s pro-development ‘2020 Vision’, in which entire regions are devoted to mining and industry and the populations living there are either displaced or have their existing ways of life drastically and forcibly changed through cultural assimilation.

Placing the destruction of Saranda Forest in this wider political context goes some way to explaining why activists like Gladson, who are speaking out against what can be seen as a war on India’s 68-million indigenous people and the environment, are met with slander, propaganda and the aggressive curtailing of civil and political rights by the state.

The move to prevent Gladson from travelling to the U.K. bears a striking similarity to the treatment of Greenpeace activist Priya Pillai who was prevented from leaving India in January 2015 to testify on the activities of U.K.-registered company Mahon Coal Limited.

In response to Pillai’s case, the Delhi High Court criticized the government’s action, saying that ‘dissent may not be palatable but it cannot be muzzled’.

It would appear the Modi Government hasn’t learned its lesson. Following the treatment of Gladson, campaign organizations, scholars and activists wrote an open letter to the Indian High Commission in the U.K., calling the incident “an unacceptable breach of democratic rights”.

The letter, which draws attention to the apparent muzzling of an activist in order to stifle dissent from the government’s agenda, also demands that Gladson “be compensated and the authorities apologize for preventing him from attending this conference for which he had a valid British visa”.

The publication of Mission Saranda marks the only significant change in Gladson’s circumstances and personal profile since he last successfully travelled to the U.K. in November 2015 to speak at a workshop on ‘Adivasis in the Anthropocene’. This has lead his supporters to suggest the success of the book, which is critical of the Indian Government, is behind the attempt to block Gladson’s movement.

The struggle for Saranda

Saranda Forest lies in Jharkhand, a state located on the eastern side of India. According to Dr. Vinita Damodaran, Director of the Centre for World Environmental History at the University of Sussex, who was due to speak alongside Gladson, Saranda is ecologically rich and the largest surviving Sal tree (Shorea robusta) forest in Asia.

“The protection of this forest should be of paramount national and international importance”, she says.

The Ho and Munda Peoples have called Saranda Forest home for centuries and, as Gladson writes, their ways of living with the forest are mutually supportive. Their livelihoods and spiritual practices are entirely dependent on the fragile forest ecosystem. The Ho and Munda in turn, have traditionally played a key role in protecting and maintaining the health of the forest.

Saranda’s ecological wealth and the homes and life ways of the Ho and Munda are now at risk of being wiped from the face of the planet as mining companies seek to exploit the abundance of iron ore in the forest’s sub-soil.

The Indian Federal Government has so far granted mining leases for 1,100 hectares of forest land. If all 85 companies that have applied for leases are successful in their applications, their concessions will total 82,000 hectares; an area larger than Saranda Forest itself.

One of the mining companies that has been granted a lease in Saranda is U.K.-listed Vedanta Resources, which became infamous for its long-running attempt to mine bauxite from the sacred Niyamgiri Hills in the neighbouring state of Orissa despite unanimous and sustained resistance from the indigenous Dongria Kondh Peoples. The company has been the subject of global protests and numerous allegations of extensive human rights abuses. On May 7, 2016 they were granted a license to build a steel plant and also intend to inherit an iron-ore mine from the company Sesa Goa.

Even now, as a result of mining already under way, Adivasi communities in Saranda are being forced to source their water from polluted streams and their forest land is being steadily torn away by extractive activities, with little to no benefits accruing to local communities.

Brexit or WWIII*

Brexit or WWIII*

The Queen was overheard saying that military intelligence suggests that if Britain doesn’t leave Europe then World War 3 will occur.

Queen Elizabeth stunned BBC production staff yesterday while preparing to deliver the Queen’s Speech at the State Opening of Parliament, hinting that she is planning to abdicate the throne and flee the U.K., a BBC insider claims.

One is making the necessary preparations to abandon ship,’ Her Majesty said. ‘A violent storm is coming, the likes of which Britain has never seen.

BBC staff ‘stunned’

Her Majesty was speaking to her advisors while taking on the Parliament Robe of State and Imperial State Crown in the Robing Chamber, however she was already wearing a microphone and her comments were heard by the whole gallery.

‘She seemed angry that she had to remain neutral in her speech.  She said there is solid intelligence from military top brass that if we don’t Brexit there is an inevitable World War 3 scenario that will play out,’ the insider said.

‘World War 2 will seem like a bump in the road compared to this.  I must warn my subjects,’ the Queen said.

BBC cover-up

The line was cut off at this point and BBC production staff were urgently addressed by the director John Kirby.  He said he had been warned by BBC executives that the Head of State had been ‘shooting her mouth off a lot lately‘ and that ‘we must all ignore, forget, delete from our memories everything that we heard.’

‘He said there wasn’t going to be a scandal on his watch.’

Queen Elizabeth’s abdication

What does Queen Elizabeth know that we don’t?  She is certainly privy to information that is kept from the public.  The possibility of a geopolitical conflict, culminating in World War 3, has been discussed by Britain’s politicians this past week.  By warning advisors that she has made the necessary preparations to flee the country, is she hinting that she has inside information of the darkest kind?
