European Company sells Miswak for £3.90 Calling it a ‘groundbreaking’ Raw Toothbrush*

European Company sells Miswak for £3.90 Calling it a ‘groundbreaking’ Raw Toothbrush*

By Salim Kassam

Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said, “Make a regular practice of Miswak for verily it is the purification for the mouth and a means of the pleasure of the Lord.”

Islamic teachings and hadiths have time and time again been proven to have health benefits as modern scientific research catches up with traditional wisdom. For example, it’s recommended in Islam to eat with one’s hands (which scientists have found to have various health benefits) and it’s also highly recommended in Islam to fast on Mondays and Thursday (fasting twice a week also has huge health benefits).

The use of the miswak is frequently advocated in the hadiths. Situations where the miswak is recommended to be used include: before performing salaat; before entering one’s house; before and after going on a journey; on Fridays; before sleeping and after waking up; when experiencing hunger or thirst and before entering any good gathering.

In addition to strengthening the gums, preventing tooth decay and eliminating toothaches, the miswak is said to halt further decay that has already set in. Furthermore, it is reputed to create a fragrance in the mouth, eliminate bad breath, improve sensitivity of taste-buds and promote cleaner teeth. You can read more about the benefits of miswak on oral hygiene here.

A Czech company called Yoni have recently started selling a raw toothbrush which is essentially the miswak for a staggering £3.90.

Whilst I don’t like the fact that they have called it ‘groundbreaking’ on their website as it’s a tradition that dates back to over 7,000 years ago (even before Islam!), it’s still great to see people embracing Prophetic tradition (albeit unknowingly).

Naturally some people have taken issue with what they perceive to be a white-washing of traditional Eastern practices:

However, from a personal perspective as someone who hasn’t used a miswak since performing Hajj last year, where it was admittedly more of a fashion accessory than a tool for oral hygiene, it serves as a brilliant reminder of a very simple and easy sunnah that I need to try and make more effort with!

Trump Wastes over $94mn in Taxpayer’s Money on Ineffective Syrian Airstrikes*

Trump Wastes over $94mn in Taxpayer’s Money on Ineffective Syrian Airstrikes*

By Amando Flavio

President Donald Trump surprised many, including his own supporters, by launching missile strikes against Syria over allegations of use of chemical weapons against civilians by the Syrian government. Trump argues that the strikes were to deter the Syrian regime from using chemical weapons in the ongoing six-year-bloody conflict.

When Trump was not in government, he strongly opposed any military action in Syria by the United States. In 2013, when similar allegations of the Syrian government using chemical weapons emerged, the then Obama administration contemplated on striking the Assad government. Trump called Obama a fool over just the mere thought of intervening in Syria.

During Trump’s political campaign period, he strongly lashed out at the country’s establishment, also known as the Deep State, accusing them of waging needless wars that enrich themselves while the masses suffer. Trump openly questioned why the United States should act as the world’s policeman. He promised to solve domestic problems by creating jobs to lift people from poverty if he won the election.

At his inauguration in Washington D.C. on January 20, he again attacked the establishment, promising to significantly shift the country’s global hegemony agenda to a more domestic-focused one for the benefit of US citizens.

With these promises, many Trump supporters were full of hope that for the first time in many years, they would get their country back from the corrupt Deep State. However, this was never to be. Trump struck Syria with 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles literally days after his administration had said the Syrians will determine who rules over them.

The latest missile strikes against Syria by the Trump administration have prompted criticism over the United States confusion. Not only the confusion, the quick U-turn by the Trump administration to launch the strikes has also cost United States taxpayers millions of dollars. According to the United States Department of Defense’s annual budget, a single Tomahawk missile costs $1.59 million. The deadly weapon is manufactured by Raytheon, a defense company with close links to members of the Deep State.

If you multiply $1.59 million by the 59 missiles fired on Syria, you will be getting around $94 million. This is only the cost of the missiles. It excludes other costs that ensure the launch is successful. One single missile weighs a staggering 1300 kg, measures six metres long and usually carries a 450kg warhead. You can imagine the amount of energy needed to launch 59 of these weapons.

This is the same Trump who had promised to solve domestic problems. There are significant numbers of people in America today who are without a place to call their home. The first thing Trump could do to help these homeless people is to not waste over $94 million on an unproductive venture in Syria.

The Russian Defense Ministry, which has personnel stationed at the Syrian airfield where the missiles targeted, said only 23 of the missiles hit the target. The other 36 missiles took a different course. There are reports that some hit impoverished villages, killing children. This shows the airstrikes were ineffective. It was a pure waste of taxpayer money.

Before he left office, the 34th President of the United States Dwight D. Eisenhower warned the country about the Deep State which controls the Military Industrial Complex (MIC).

However, this warning by Eisenhower has fallen on deaf ears. The MIC influence was so great in successive governments that the country’s defense budget has skyrocketed. In 2011, for example, the United States spent more (in absolute numbers) on its military than the next 13 nations combined. Before Obama left office, it dropped to the next 7 nations combined, with a budget of over half a trillion dollars.

Trump has announced he intends to increase the defense budget this year.  His National Security Advisor Herbert Raymond McMaster has warned him about the diabolical influence of the MIC. Trump has turned his back to the millions of Americans who wanted change. He is not listening to advice, even from his own appointees. Trump is now dinning with the Deep State. The Deep State who opposed Trump’s candidature to the presidency is heaping praises on him for bombing Syria. If Trump continues bombing, the Deep State flourishes.

Over 100 U.N. Peacekeepers ran a Child Sex Ring in Haiti, and were ever Jailed*

Over 100 U.N. Peacekeepers ran a Child Sex Ring in Haiti, and were ever Jailed*

“Imagine if the U.N. was going to the United States and raping children and bringing cholera,” said one lawyer in Haiti, where U.N. peacekeepers face hundreds of allegations of child sex crimes.

An Associated Press investigation has documented more than 200 allegations of sexual abuse, exploitation and other prohibited conduct by United Nations peacekeepers in Haiti. (The Associated Press )

By Paisley Dodds

In the ruins of a tropical hideaway where jetsetters once sipped rum under the Caribbean sun, the abandoned children tried to make a life for themselves. They begged and scavenged for food, but they never could scrape together enough to beat back the hunger, until the U.N. peacekeepers moved in a few blocks away.

The men who came from a faraway place and spoke a strange language offered the Haitian children cookies and other snacks. Sometimes they gave them a few dollars. But the price was high: The Sri Lankan peacekeepers wanted sex from girls and boys as young as 12.

“I did not even have breasts,” said a girl, known as V01 — Victim No. 1.

She told U.N. investigators that over the next three years, from ages 12 to 15, she had sex with nearly 50 peacekeepers, including a “Commandant” who gave her 75 cents. Sometimes she slept in U.N. trucks on the base next to the decaying resort, whose once-glamorous buildings were being overtaken by jungle.

Justice for victims like V01 is rare. An Associated Press investigation of U.N. missions during the past 12 years found nearly 2,000 allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation by peacekeepers and other personnel around the world — signalling the crisis is much larger than previously known. More than 300 of the allegations involved children, the AP found, but only a fraction of the alleged perpetrators served jail time.

Legally, the U.N. is in a bind. It has no jurisdiction over peacekeepers, leaving punishment to the countries that contribute the troops.

The AP interviewed alleged victims, current and former U.N. officials and investigators and sought answers from 23 countries on the number of peacekeepers who faced such allegations and, what if anything, was done to investigate. With rare exceptions, few nations responded to repeated requests, while the names of those found guilty are kept confidential, making accountability impossible to determine.

Without agreement for widespread reform and accountability from the U.N.’s member states, solutions remain elusive.

Here in Haiti, at least 134 Sri Lankan peacekeepers exploited nine children in a sex ring from 2004 to 2007, according to an internal U.N. report obtained by the AP. In the wake of the report, 114 peacekeepers were sent home. None was ever imprisoned.

In March, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced new measures to tackle sexual abuse and exploitation by U.N. peacekeepers and other personnel. But the proclamation had a depressingly familiar ring: More than a decade ago, the United Nations commissioned a report that promised to do much the same thing, yet most of the reforms never materialized.

For a full two years after those promises were made, the children in Haiti were passed around from soldier to soldier. And in the years since, peacekeepers have been accused of sexual abuse the world over.

In response to the AP’s investigation, the U.N.’s head of field support said Wednesday the international body was aware of shortcomings in the system.

“We believe we are advancing in the right direction, especially with the secretary-general’s new approach,” said Atul Khare who heads the U.N. department in charge of peacekeeper discipline and conduct. “Improving the assistance provided to victims, who are at the heart of our response, is fundamental.”

Khare also said the organization was working with member states to hold perpetrators to account.

In one particularly grim case in Haiti, a teenage boy said he was gang-raped in 2011 by Uruguayan peacekeepers who filmed the alleged assault on a cellphone. Dozens of Haitian women also say they were raped, and dozens more had what is euphemistically called “survival sex” in a country where most people live on less than $2.50 a day, the AP found.

Haitian lawyer Mario Joseph has been trying to get compensation for victims of a deadly cholera strain linked to Nepalese peacekeepers that killed an estimated 10,000 people. Now, he is also trying to get child support for about a dozen Haitian women left pregnant by peacekeepers.

“Imagine if the U.N. was going to the United States and raping children and bringing cholera,” Joseph said in Port-au-Prince. “Human rights aren’t just for rich white people.”

U.S. Sen. Bob Corker agrees. The Tennessee Republican, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has been calling for reforms in the United Nations. He may well get them under President Donald Trump, whose administration has proposed a 31% reduction to the U.S. foreign aid and diplomacy budget. Corker and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley want a review of all missions.

Corker recalled his disgust at hearing of the U.N. sexual abuse cases uncovered last year in Central African Republic.

“If I heard that a U.N. peacekeeping mission was coming near my home in Chattanooga,” he told AP,

“I’d be on the first plane out of here to go back and protect my family.”

The Habitation Leclerc resort was once well known throughout Port-au-Prince as a lush refuge amid the capital’s grimy alleyways. During its heyday in the 1980s, celebrities like Mick Jagger and Jackie Onassis would perch by the pool or stroll past the property’s Voodoo temple.

By 2004, the resort was a decrepit clutch of buildings, and several children, either orphaned or abandoned by their parents, were living in its ruins.

The remains of Habitation Leclerc in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In the ruins, a group of abandoned children found shelter but were barely surviving. Exploiting that desperation, U.N. peacekeepers lured them into a child sex ring. In August 2007, the U.N. received complaints of “suspicious interactions” between Sri Lankan soldiers and Haitian children, launching an investigation. (Dieu Nalio Chery)

It was there that V01 met other victims, two girls referred to in the U.N. report as “V02” and “V03” and a young boy, “V08.” The boy initially supported them by occasionally bringing food from his aunt, but they were often hungry.

The peacekeepers had arrived that year as part of a new mission to help stabilize Haiti in the wake of President Jean-Bertrande Aristide’s ouster. The Sri Lankans, numbering about 900 troops, landed in a historically unstable country in the grip of scattered violence and kidnappings — and a broken government ill-suited to confront the chaos.

Some of the peacekeepers in the Sri Lankan contingent were based near the former resort.

In August 2007, the U.N. received complaints of “suspicious interactions” between Sri Lankan soldiers and Haitian children. U.N. investigators then interviewed nine victims, as well as witnesses, while the sex ring was still active.

V02, who was 16 when the U.N. team interviewed her, told them she had sex with a Sri Lankan commander at least three times, describing him as overweight with a moustache and a gold ring on his middle finger. She said he often showed her a picture of his wife. The peacekeepers also taught her some Sinhalese so she could understand and express sexual innuendo; the children even talked to one another in Sinhalese when U.N. investigators were interviewing them.

V03 identified 11 Sri Lankan troops through photographs, one of whom she said was a corporal with a “distinctive” bullet scar between his armpit and waist. V04, who was 14, said she had sex with the soldiers every day in exchange for money, cookies or juice.

During her interview with investigators, another young victim, V07, received a phone call from a Sri Lankan peacekeeper. She explained that the soldiers would pass along her number to incoming contingent members, who would then call her for sex.

The boy, V08, said he had sex with more than 20 Sri Lankans. Most would remove their name tags before taking him to U.N .military trucks, where he gave them oral sex or was sodomized by them.

Another boy, V09, was 15 when his encounters began. Over the course of three years, he said he had sex with more than 100 Sri Lankan peacekeepers, averaging about four a day, investigators said.

Under Haitian law, having sex with someone under 18 is statutory rape. U.N. codes of conduct also prohibit exploitation.

“The sexual acts described by the nine victims are simply too many to be presented exhaustively in this report, especially since each claimed multiple sexual partners at various locations where the Sri Lankan contingents were deployed throughout Haiti over several years,” the report said.

Investigators showed the children more than 1,000 photographs that included pictures of Sri Lankan troops and locations of where the children had sex with the soldiers.

“The evidence shows that from late 2004 to mid-October 2007, at least 134 military members of the current and previous Sri Lankan contingents sexually exploited and abused at least nine Haitian children,” the report said.

After the report was filed, 114 Sri Lanka peacekeepers were sent home, putting an end to the sex ring.

But the sexual exploitation visited upon Haiti’s people didn’t stop there.

Janila Jean said she was a 16-year-old virgin when a Brazilian peacekeeper lured her to a U.N. compound three years ago with a smear of peanut butter on bread, raped her at gunpoint and left her pregnant. She finds herself constantly in tears.

“Some days, I imagine strangling my daughter to death,” she said in an interview under the shadow of banana palms near the former Jacmel base.

With her were three other women who said they also were raped by peacekeepers. One of them sat on her heels, scraping coconut from its shell and into a large cauldron of water and corn, the barest of meals for the women and their small children.

Adm. Ademir Sobrinho of Brazil’s armed forces said at a conference in London that his force had no such cases of rape, sexual abuse or sexual exploitation.

But like many, Jean didn’t report the rape. Nearly a dozen women interviewed by the AP said they were too scared to report the crimes out of fear they would be blamed — or worse, would meet their victimizers again.

The AP found that some 150 allegations of abuse and exploitation by U.N. peacekeepers and other personnel were reported in Haiti alone between 2004 and 2016, out of the worldwide total of nearly 2,000. Aside from the Sri Lankan sex ring in Haiti, some perpetrators were jailed for other cases.

Alleged abusers came from Bangladesh, Brazil, Jordan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uruguay and Sri Lanka, according to U.N. data and interviews. More countries may have been involved, but the United Nations only started disclosing alleged perpetrators’ nationalities after 2015.

The litany of abuses is long.

In July 2011, four Uruguayan peacekeepers and their commanding officer allegedly gang-raped a Haitian teenager. The men also filmed the alleged attack on their phones, which went viral on the internet. The men never faced trial in Haiti; four of the five were convicted in Uruguay of “private violence,” a lesser charge. Uruguayan officials said at the time that it was a prank gone wrong and that no rape occurred.

The following year, three Pakistanis attached to the U.N.’s police units in Haiti were allegedly involved in the rape of a mentally disabled 13-year-old in the northern city of Gonaives.

U.N. officials went to Haiti to investigate, but the Pakistanis abducted the boy to keep him from detailing the abuse that had gone on for more than a year, according to Peter Gallo, a former U.N. investigator familiar with the case.

Finally, the men were tried in a Pakistani military tribunal, and eventually sent back to Pakistan. In theory, the tribunal could have allowed for better access to witnesses, but it’s unclear whether any were called. The Pakistani authorities also refused to allow the U.N. to observe the proceedings. In the end, one man was sent to prison for a year, according to Ariane Quentier, a spokeswoman for the Haiti mission.

“It’s an indictment of how the whole U.N. system works,” Gallo told the AP.

Pakistan’s military has refused several requests for comment on the case.

U.N. data during the 12-year period reviewed by AP is incomplete and varies in levels of detail, particularly for cases before 2010. Hundreds of other cases were closed with little to no explanation. In its review, the AP analyzed data from annual reports as well as information from the Office of Internal Oversight Services.

In the wake of the child sex ring investigation, a team of Sri Lankans spent two weeks in Haiti in October 2007. They interviewed only 25 soldiers out of more than 900 in the country and concluded that just two Sri Lankan corporals and one private had sex with two “young” victims. Three soldiers denied sexual encounters but were suspected of lying, according to the U.N. investigation report.

For six months, the Sri Lankan army and the government declined to respond to AP’s questions about the 2007 case. Instead, officials first dodged repeated queries, then gave vague assurances that the scandal represented an isolated incident. Last month, the Sri Lankan government acknowledged its military had conducted inquiries into just 18 soldiers it said were implicated, and that “the U.N. Secretariat has acknowledged in writing, action taken by the Government, and informed that the Secretariat, as of 29 September 2014, considers the matter closed.”

Some of the peacekeepers involved in the ring were still in the Sri Lankan military as of last year, Sri Lankan military officials say. The United Nations, meanwhile, continued to send Sri Lankan peacekeepers to Haiti and elsewhere despite corroborating the child sex ring.

Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi defended the troops, saying, “People are quite happy and comfortable with the peacekeepers.”

Above a rusty bench at an abandoned bus stop in the village of Leogane hangs a sign that reads, “Constructed by the 16th Sri Lanka Peacekeeping Battalion.” It’s one of the few physical reminders of the battalion’s mission — along with children fathered by U.N. personnel.

Marie-Ange Haitis says she met a Sri Lankan commander in December 2006 and he soon began making nighttime visits to her house in Leogane.

“By January, we had had sex,” she said.

“It wasn’t rape, but it wasn’t exactly consensual, either. I felt like I didn’t have a choice.”

Marie-Ange Haitis, 40, stands with her daughter, Samantha, at their home in Leogane, Haiti. Haitis says she met a Sri Lankan commander in December 2006 and he soon began making nighttime visits to her house. (Dieu Nalio Chery)

She said when she first realized that she was pregnant, the Haitian translator assigned to the Sri Lankans told her to have an abortion. Then, she said, U.N. officials accused her of lying. As she spoke, her daughter Samantha sat on her lap wearing an oversized pair of sunglasses with a missing lens.

When she was interviewed in August, Haitis said she had been waiting nearly a decade for the U.N. to consider her paternity claim to help support her daughter.

Finally, early this year, Sri Lankan and U.N. officials told AP that a one-time payment of $45,243 had been made for Haitis’ daughter. The United Nations said Sri Lanka accepted the paternity claim without proof of DNA and the commander was dismissed from service.

But such payments are rare.

U.N. officials said they were unable to find any members of the mission in Haiti who might have dealt with the victims in the sex-ring case and did not know what happened to the children.

An Italian non-governmental organization, AVSI, said it helped the children by trying to find homes for them, providing them with counselling and helping reintegrate them into schools, but it also lost track of the children shortly after the country’s devastating 2010 earthquake.

Khare, the U.N. head of field support, acknowledged the scope of the problem and said the global agency must do more to help victims, including gathering accurate information and following up with troop-contributing countries.

“What we all want to see is justice been served for the victims of these horrendous acts,” he said.

An AP review of reports on the conduct of U.N. field missions showed haphazard record-keeping.

In a 2008 report, for example, 19 allegations were reported in Haiti — a number that seemed to contradict the U.N.’s own investigation report in late 2007 that identified nine children and 134 peacekeepers in the sex ring. Before 2010, the number of allegations involving minors was not specified for all U.N. missions.

Some Haitians wonder whether the U.N. has done more harm than good in a country that has endured tragedy after tragedy since it became the first black republic in 1804.

U.N. personnel say they have contributed to the stability in the Caribbean nation over the years, saved lives during the 2010 earthquake’s aftermath and prevented violence during periods of unrest. The mission, which currently has nearly 5,000 personnel and is expected to scale down by October, has also been credited with training police, providing security during elections and support to the judiciary.

“I would not say we have achieved everything we set out to do, but we are engaged in a process of continuous improvement that any harmful effect on the local populations could be minimized, if not completely eradicated,” Khare said.

Many here are not convinced.

“I’d like to see my attacker face to face and tell him how he has destroyed my life,” said 21-year-old Melida Joseph, who said she was raped by one peacekeeper and narrowly escaped being gang-raped in Cite-Soleil, a seaside slum. Like others, she never reported the crime.

“They’ll look at this as one big joke,” she said.

“As far as the U.N. goes, they came here to protect us, but all they’ve brought is destruction.”

Israeli Submarine Set-up for Syrian Gas Attacks*

Israeli Submarine Set-up for Syrian Gas Attacks*

By Gordon Duff

“What the story doesn’t tell is that the Israeli submarine with 84 onboard, went down with teams of IDF commandos who had been in Syria placing radio repeaters disguised as rocks. The repeaters were later used to send out messages “in the clear” misattributed to the Syrian Army, “confessions” of the use of Sarin gas. Evidence from these Israeli repeaters was presented to the U.N, after the August 2013 Sarin attack in Ghouta that killed 1000.”

Today we learned that the primary evidence the U.S. has shown its NATO allies on the Syrian gas attack isn’t satellite images, easily exposed as photoshopped.  It is radio intercepts of Syrians screaming out “get me more sarin gas..”

{For today’s parallel account from a chemical warfare expert at MIT, please read: http://www.veteranstoday.com/2017/04/12/busted-white-house-syria-report-obviously-false/}

Well, VT has caught them before and has this this time as well.  Bear with us while we head into the past and weave a yarn of duplicity and criminality, where America becomes the evil empire Reagan warned us about.

Veterans Today broke the story of an Israeli submarine being sunk by Syria on May 22, 2013.  We had learned that Israeli teams had been inside Syria for some time, planting radio repeaters.  Israel figured President Obama would fall for their trick, repeaters in rocks, screaming out:

“Thank goodness those Americans will never catch us Syrians using Sarin gas on our own people for no reason…we are just going to chat away because we are bored and stupid.”

This isn’t a new ploy, not new for Israel and not knew for necon America, and there has never been anyone quite as “neocon” as Trump.  From Veterans Today (and the Washington Post) 2012, the U.S. using phony radio traffic to start a war

In 2007, an American armada, troop ships, aircraft carriers, guided missile cruisers and destroyers sailed into the Persian Gulf.  Their plan was to land Marines on Iranian soil, a plan hatched by Vice President Dick Cheney and White House officials including Karl Rove, Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Clarke. Vice Admiral Kevin Cosgriff

Military command of this invasion, to be done without consultation of congress or the United Nations was left to Vice Admiral Kevin J. Cosgriff and Admiral Will J. Fallon, both career opportunists with extremist political views, willing to do anything for promotion and the curry favor from the powerful criminal figures in U.S. government.

Their “cover story” was to sale a frigate up the Shatt al Arab, a disputed waterway between Iraq and Iran, hoping to stimulate a “response” from Iran.

Their real plan was to create the response themselves, as was done by the Navy during the Tonkin Gulf Incident in 1964 when America “invented” an attack by North Vietnam as a prelude to a 10 year war America eventually lost.

Their plans were to create phony radio traffic simulating an Iranian attack in order to push America into authorizing hostilities that they, themselves, had perpetrated in as part of a conspiracy.

In the interview below, Vladimir Putin discusses, among other things, America’s phony radio intercepts.

You see, it was phony radio intercepts, they call it SIGINT for signals intelligence, from the USS Maddock,  that was used to justify America’s entry into the Vietnam War, which killed millions and wiped out a generation of Americans.  Phony radio intercepts are the heart of every war.  In 1967, Israel claimed that it had to go to war because of radio intercepts between Egypt’s Nassar and Jordan’s King Hussein.  Lest we forget, Israel pummeled the USS Liberty, offshore in international waters. to prevent real radio intercepts that would have proven their fake interception to be just that, fake.

USS Liberty

It was Israel that jammed communications by the USS Liberty allowing the crew to be slaughtered, the same Israel whose radio repeaters were used during the August 2013 Ghouta sarin attack and, I think we can safely surmise, the Idlib attack as well.  We begin with backstory, enjoy:

[ Editor’s note: It was time for Gordon to do one of his retrospective dot connectors. It is not that we are running out of current news; but because after years of covering a story, its beginning, middle and ending can get blurred.

We also like to keep pointing out how quickly mainstream media seems to forget, as they never put much effort into retrospection, even though it is easier to see what and why things were done after a few years, which makes you more aware of what is going on now.

I fear some of this is due to the unpleasant reality of their thinking that the public has no retention, so that effort would be wasted. Under the massive perception management assault we all endure, more and more people reject anything and everything that conflicts with what they want to believe.

Fewer readers are really searching for information and truth, but for validation of what they already believe. Fox News can explain the psychology to you in detail.

That sad state of affairs emanated from one of the early artificial intelligence studies. A computer was programmed to talk to interviewees and answer their questions. The purpose was to expose the weaknesses and improve the programming.

But what the system did was always repeat back what the participant asked, and then posed another question back to the participant; and this same process was repeated, for hours even. The scientist was astounded to see subjects loving the experience; and what he discovered was going on was that they loved being validated; they loved having their thoughts and words repeated to them over and over, and having the illusion of talking to someone/something that “understood them”.

This was quickly jumped on by the crowd manipulators as one of their main perception management tools, and with all the google profiling available as to what people’s interests are, this information is a goldmine for political operators who use it extensively in not only finding supporters, but keeping them revved up, and inexpensively, too. We are becoming plantation critters to them, in a literal senseJim W. Dean ]

On February 24, 2016, Turkey announced that it took the Syrian city of al Bab when ISIS resistance mysteriously collapsed. The day before, Veterans Today published a story, based on a live interview on the ground at al Bab, that Turkey had just loaded 950 ISIS fighters on trucks and was moving them north, into Turkey for redeployment to al Raqqah.

Based on this evidence and a strange battle narrative that had made little sense tactically, this deception by Turkey fits the Erdogan profile. Turkey has always coveted a buffer zone in Northern Syria and had, as it seems, used their own military to seize it some time ago, as our sources confirmed.

Now, as part of a coalition between Russia, Iran, Syria and themselves, they staged a battle in order to occupy Northern Syria officially. This may well be why the Syrian Arab Army is moving forces north and east to block Turkey from moving further into Syria, rather an attack Idlib or retake Palmyra.

What we are seeing is continued deception, not just in Syria but Iraq as well. But let’s look at the concurrent move by the Trump administration. President Trump had said reports damning Syria, who was actively fighting ISIS where others were, were largely fake news. One key example has been chemical warfare.

Here is another story that was buried and for good reason, because it is tied to a deception about Syria’s use of chemical weapons and how Israel was party to fabricating proof about these accusations, which are being taken to the United Nations Security Council this week by the U.S. under orders of President Trump, a violation of his promises to not only voters but Russia as well. From SyriaNews, May 22, 2013:

“Syrianews managed to confirm the news we received a couple of days ago that a Syrian Navy boat destroyed an Israeli submarine off the Syrian coast at 150 metres depth on 02 May 2013 around 2 – 2:30 am. We were not told the type or size of the submarine but we were confirmed it was destroyed.

In the details we managed to get: the enemy object was detected and orders were given to one of the nearby boats to destroy it which they did with a torpedo (not told which type), then it was monitored sinking until landing on the seabed off the coast.

A heavy movement of Syrian Army helicopters was observed over the site where the submarine was destroyed.

It’s not the first time Syrian Navy engage with enemy and hostile objects. At the very beginning of the Syrian crisis, the Syrian Navy spotted a German navy ship on a reconnaissance mission and harassed it away, a German minister then complained of the Syrian Navy acts claiming the ship was not spying, just listening and collecting information!”

What the story doesn’t tell is that the submarine with 84 onboard, went down with teams of IDF commandos who had been in Syria placing radio repeaters disguised as rocks. The repeaters were later used to send out messages “in the clear” misattributed to the Syrian Army, “confessions” of the use of Sarin gas. Evidence from these Israeli repeaters was presented to the U.N. after the August 2013 Sarin attack in Ghouta that killed 1000.

Now the United States under Trump is trying to renew these long ago exposed fake charges and pile on more. We might add that Russia tried repeatedly to introduce evidence on this Sarin case and subsequent uses of mustard and chlorine gasses by not only ISIS but U.S. backed rebels as well. The FSA went so far as to post video on YouTube showing them using gas projectiles in Syria but seemingly the CIA can’t crack into YouTube.

Jeffrey Silverman after one of his beatings by U.S. contractors, angry over his reporting

We can go further, correspondent Jeffrey Silverman, Georgia Bureau Chief for Veterans Today and featured contributor for New Eastern Outlook, investigated a U.S. facility in Tbilisi, Georgia, funded by USAID and built by Bechtel Corporation.

Silverman got plans of a U.S. lab, called the Lugar Laboratory, named after a famous American politician, formerly called the National Reference Laboratory of Georgia. According to plans for the facility that Silverman received from sources and subsequently published and statements by employees there, the U.S. had built a bio-chemical weapons facility.

A subsequent investigation showed how American corporate security operating in Georgia, working with the security services of Ukraine and Turkey, had moved chemical weapons to Syria where they were deployed by ISIS with the assistance of officers from the military of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

In December, 2014, I met with the Syrian Ministry of Justice in Damascus and reviewed his records on this issue including reports of a Syrian Spetsnaz attack on a production and storage facility in Northern Syria and the results of that attack which included captured Turkish, Saudi and Qatari military officers and considerable documentation and physical evidence of chemical weapons deployment.

This evidence has repeatedly been offered to the United Nations, the evidence has been made available to the press, and the intelligence services of the United States most certainly. We also know that President Trump has had all of this made available to him and that he is aware of the “Lugar Lab” in Tbilisi and Israel’s role, aided by the Coventry U.K. based Syrian Human Rights Observatory and the Reuters News Agency, in a disinformation campaign against Syria.

Let’s look at issues of the massive amounts of military equipment terrorists have received. We are aware that units of the Syrian Army joined the rebels and took equipment with them including tanks, artillery and missile launchers. We are also aware that, when ISIS took Mosul, they captured tanks, Humvee’s and much more.

However, the fleets of Toyota Hilux “technical” with reinforced suspension and gun mounts are something else. These vehicles were delivered, already armed and converted, to the Jordanian port of Aqaba. With the hundreds of these units that have been captured or destroyed, no one has ever recorded the serial numbers of a single truck.

Similarly, when al Qaeda shows up with the latest TOW and Stinger missiles, in new shipping containers labeled “Raytheon Corporation/USA” nothing is said about that as well.

Then there is the issue of drones. In 2012, the Turkish Army signed a contract with Israel, despite bans put in place after the 2010 Mavi Marmara incident, to buy drones. Though many of the drones ISIS uses are commercially available and supplied to them by, well we don’t really know who, do we, some of them carry weapons and are of the same type as those delivered by Israel to Turkey. Imagine that.

Then there is the U.S. military air facility inside Jordan and the C130 aircraft without markings that are on the runway. In addition, US Special Forces have at least two airfields inside Syria, reported by mainstream news media but quickly forgotten, even visited by one CNN reporter, but when those facilities are used to drop supplies to ISIS, as is alleged by the Iraqi government, they suddenly vanish, from the media at least.

As President Trump relies on media that republishes these stories and uses material like this as his basis for attacking the mainstream media as fake, and rightly so, why does he not include this information in his policies as well, seeking redress?

What we have is broad support for terrorism by the U.S., Israel, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkey and the Gulf States, so obvious it can’t be ignored, so illegal, so heinous, one might think something should be done.

When Israel simply walks away from having a submarine sunk, and starts a multi-year deception of paying off families of the dead, silencing them, and repainting hull markings to cover the loss, as we have also confirmed, what else is being done?

Former Military Contractor Tries to Sell Secret Surveillance Rock on eBay for $10 Million

By Dana Liebelson

Most people check out eBay for vintage shoes, collectable Lord of the Rings swords, and limited edition Bruce Springsteen posters. But last week, eBayers had the opportunity to bid on national security surveillance equipment, intended to be disguised in a fake rock (rock not included, although you can get one at Home Depot). The technology was allegedly accredited by the Department of Defense and developed for Lockheed Martin in the early 2000s. But Lockheed never bought the commissioned project. So Gregory Perry, a former subcontractor who has done cybersecurity work for the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), advertised that for a starting bid of $3 million—or a “buy it now” price of $10 million—you could get hundreds of pages of development instructions, two years of email backups with Lockheed, and some hardware, including a specialized radio. All of this would supposedly equip you to build your own “RockCam,” intended to be used to take encrypted video and audio of US critical infrastructure, like nuclear power plants and oil and gas pipelines.

Welcome to the bizarre world of fake-rock subcontracting.

“Selling this collection of information is an attempt at recouping all or a portion of my investment of time, effort, personal monies, and sweat equity,” Perry tells Mother Jones.

Perry, who has 100 percent positive buyer’s feedback on eBay, received dozens of bids when he first put the item up weeks ago. He took it down because he felt his story had received adequate exposure—and none of the bids were anywhere close to his original $10 million asking price. But he relisted the auction last week with a minimum bid because he “might have a serious buyer at this juncture.” As of publication, Perry had ended the auction on Sunday with zero bids, which is also the case with the $1,795 3-D printer that Perry was selling.

In the late ’90s, Perry worked for NETSEC Inc, a contractor that installed firewalls and did intrusion detection for EOUSA. (His employment by NETSEC was confirmed to Mother Jones by Zal Azmi, former chief information officer for EOUSA and the FBI.) Then, in 2002, Perry was hired by a subcontractor called Advanced Wireless Automation (AWA), where he owned a 10 percent founder’s share of the company. The subcontractor’s shining product was the RockCam, which is either a video camera with a lot of batteries or a high-tech piece of surveillance equipment, depending on who you ask. Perry says that RockCams—which on the outside, look like rocks—contain devices capable of sending encrypted information via 900 MHz radio to a main communication hub. According to the eBay listing, each high-resolution image and video is tagged with geographic coordinates, and the rock also contains environmental hardware, “such as temperature and humidity sensors for sampling weather-related data from the area.” The batteries last for three years. Here is a picture of the technology:

Perry says that Lockheed agreed to pay between $250,000-$500,000 for the final version of the device. (A Lockheed financial statement Perry sent Mother Jones shows that Lockheed was billed $4,000 for each public key encryption system, which doesn’t include the rest of the hardware.) Perry says his $96,000 salary was funded by these purchases as well as the investors that put money into the company. But Perry claims that after the RockCam was certified by DoD, he was fired by his fellow AWA shareholders (none of whom contacted by Mother Joneswould comment) and the company dissolved because Lockheed did not pick up the product. Then, a couple years later, “spy rock” arrived:

Last year, Jonathan Powell, former chief of staff to Tony Blair, admitted that MI6, the British secret service, had used a spy rock, planted in a park in Moscow, to communicate with secret agents there in 2006. Powell called the security breach “embarrassing.” After the rock was discovered, Russian leader Vladimir Putin then ordered a crackdown on foreign-funded NGOs, accusing them of destabilizing the country.

Perry claims that spy rock borrows technology he developed with RockCam—and as a result, he wants compensation for his 10 percent shareholder’s claim. However, there’s no evidence that Lockheed made the famous spy rock (MI6 does not answer press questions). According to Wired, it’s not entirely outside the realm of possibility that Lockheed is in the fake surveillance rock business, as it’s leaving small wireless sensors—disguised as rocks—across the Afghan countryside, in order to perform “unobtrusive, continuous surveillance” for decades. But one technology expert told Mother Jones that RockCam is a glorified camera, and spy rock acts as a mailbox for uploading wireless files, so the only thing they have in common is the fake rock (Perry argues that his design has “wireless networking capabilities”).

Melissa Dalton, a spokesperson for the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Skunkworks Group, would not comment on the eBay sale nor documents Perry sent Mother Jones allegedly showing his relationship with the company. Mark Wright, a spokesman for the Department of Defense, says that on cursory investigation, “We couldn’t find any knowledge of DOD involvement with this project.” However, after sending additional requested information about the project, another DOD spokesperson said that “we’re researching it” but did not respond by deadline.

Wayne Mitzen—a technology developer with several patents who worked with Perry at NETSEC and currently makes sex toys—says that this eBay listing isn’t actually that unusual. “One of my clients, who invented wireless microphone technology, mentioned his stuff’s ended up on eBay, too. It happens,” he says. “It’s the Snowden effect. Everybody thinks they’re Snowden, you know?”*

How to Tune Your Endocrine System*

How to Tune Your Endocrine System*

By Azriel Re’Shel & Tanja Taljaard

Shining the Light on the Forgotten System

It’s not usually a topic of conversation around the dinner table or something you’d choose to read up on, as most people would consider the functioning of the endocrine system to be a tad dry. Yet, understanding the basics of this vital and fascinating system of the body can make a huge difference to your life.

Our endocrine glands can impact every area of our health. The endocrine system is made up of glands that produce and secrete hormones. It is responsible for the hormonal functions in the body, with the 30 hormones produced each having a very specific job to do. We all know the impact of whacky hormones, and it’s fair to say, it’s not good!

If one gland’s function is out of balance, it can affect the health of all the others, and the glands affect the function of the entire body. Not only does the endocrine system work on the physical realm, but also on the emotional and energetic realms. It is highly beneficial and empowering to understand how we can nurture our own bodies and support the optimal functioning of these glands.

With a few simple tricks, you can easily keep your body in tune and enjoy greater happiness and balance.

A Basic Guide to the Endocrine System

The endocrine system is a major, yet sometimes overlooked, component of your body. While it has many physical functions, such as regulating sleep, heart rate, metabolism, the immune system, and so much more, it is vital to mental functionality and mood.

Looking at the important gland centres of the body – the hypothalamus, the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, the adrenals, pancreas, pineal gland, ovaries and testes – we begin to understand why this system is so important. But the liver, pancreas, stomach, small intestine, kidneys, and the placenta are all also part of the endocrine system. So if you’re feeling a little down, touchy, or just plain grouchy, perhaps your endocrine system is suffering.

Together, the hypothalamus and the pituitary regulate all processes related to survival in general, such as hunger, thirst, sexual activity, body temperature, stress, and fight or flight. The hypothalamus tells the pituitary what to do, and then the pituitary tells the other endocrine organs what to do. You can imagine it like a control centre with a chain of command and if anything falls apart in this chain of command, the body’s balance can go awry. The endocrine organ hormones feed back to the hypothalamus, telling it when to turn on or off. The hypothalamus is the go-between of the endocrine system, nervous system, and the immune system. There is a powerful relationship between the endocrine system and the central nervous system and the two systems are synergistic. Most illness is caused by imbalance and stress, and we all know that if your nervous system is optimal you will deal with stress better, and have optimum wellbeing.

The hormone secretions are a language; a dance, that keeps us energetically stable, balanced and feeling supported. When it is not in equilibrium we feel tired, heavy and unsupported. Stress plays a big part in destabilising our endocrine function and, consequently, our nervous system too.

Chinese Medicine and the Endocrine System

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the endocrine system is closely tied to the internal balance of Yin and Yang energies in the body. Although imbalance between the Yin and Yang energy is the basis of any human disease, the most important element for endocrine disorder treatment is centered on the kidney meridian.

Meridians are channels of energy that run throughout our bodies.

Western physiology and anatomy limits its description of the kidney to the actual organ itself, while TCM assigns it major significance with the ‘kidney’ as the home of the ‘ancestral chi’ (inherent constitution) and the root of yin and yang for the entire body. TCM also recognises the prominent hormone regulating role played by the adrenals, which are two endocrine glands attached to the superior surface of the kidneys, and just how important they are in the regulation of the autonomic nervous system.

The kidney meridian is known as the root of life and the reservoir of energy; the seat of courage and willpower.

The Chakras and the Endocrine System

The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato, saw the spinal energy centres, or chakras, as being the subtle organs of the soul in establishing dominion over the mind and body. Plato said that the soul manifested in three forms.

The highest level of soul expression he called the logos, psyche or immortal soul. It’s found in the eyebrow centre and associated with the endocrine gland, the pituitary and Hypothalamus or master gland of the endocrine system. He called the middle level of soul expression thymos, the mortal soul, the aspect that is in charge of the body and its vital expression, and its associated endocrine gland is the thymus gland. The third or lowest level epithymia, is concerned with our basic survival instincts and is at the root centre, associated with the endocrine glands, the adrenals. So embedded in the chakra system is the endocrine glands, with perhaps the most important endocrine glands – the adrenals – and the base chakra forming the basic energetic support or foundation for the entire organism.

Hermeticists and other esoteric philosophers noticed that every chakra is linked to an endocrine gland: the crown chakra with the pineal, the brow centre with the pituitary and hypothalamus, the throat centre with the thyroid gland, the heart centre with the thymus gland, solar plexus with pancreas, sacral chakra with the reproductive organs and the base chakra with adrenals.

The chakras are said to correlate with the different glands of the endocrine system

They then reasoned that the function of the associated endocrine gland must have something to do with the spiritual, psychological, psychosomatic and physiological functions attributed to the chakra, or energy centre.

Endocrine Disruptors

Stress, infection and inflammation, sleep, exercise and diet – especially minerals and fluid balance – all have an impact on hormone levels. Synthetic organic chemicals have a negative impact on the human endocrine system and they place stress on human reproduction, growth and/or development.

The endocrine disruptors mimic or block hormones and disrupt the way the body normally works through the functional impairment of the endocrine glands.

Typical symptoms of the endocrine disorders include low immunity, fatigue, weight gain, depression, digestive issues, hair loss, arthritis, and feeling chilled regardless of the temperature.

Creating Endocrine Balance

The entire endocrine system works together to control the level of hormones circulating throughout your body, and if one or more hormones are even slightly imbalanced, it can cause widespread and major health problems.

Healthy, unprocessed fats promote optimal endocrine function

There are some simple ways we can balance our hormones naturally. Eating healthy fats, like coconut oil and avocados, go a long way to supporting hormonal balance. Supplementing your diet with adaptogen herbs – a unique class of healing plants that promote hormone balance, boost immune function and protect the body from diseases, especially those caused by excess stress – such as Ashwagandha, medicinal mushrooms, Rhodiola and Holy Basil, can have a powerful effect on the body. Dairy is a big no-no for taking care of your hormones because dairy contains numerous natural hormones that weren’t meant to be combined with our own.

Reducing the impact of chemicals on the body, by eating wholesome natural food, and eliminating toxic kitchen, beauty and body care products go a long way to supporting hormonal health.

Of course, exercise is vital for hormonal balance too. For people with hormonal imbalances, the key with exercise is to be careful not to overdo it. Reducing stress and ensuring you get enough sleep are vital to happy hormones. Cortisol, the primary ‘stress hormone’, is regulated at midnight. So people who go to bed late never truly get a break from their sympathetic flight/fight stress response.

Balancing Hormones with Yoga

Yoga is one of the best ways to balance the endocrine system. Practices like Yoga Nidra or yogic sleep, are a great way to control stress and emotion through encouraging the autonomic nervous system and the digest, rest response which is so nourishing to our entire system. Yogic breathing supports the hypothalamus and other glands, helping to balance the endocrine system. And of course, yoga asana (or poses) have a direct action on the endocrine organs, through twists, inversions and other poses which massage and stimulate the organs such as the kidneys, liver and pancreas, encouraging hormone production and flow. The chakras and endocrine glands align and communicate in important ways, and by practising yoga we can support greater hormonal balance through harmonised chakras.

Yoga asana (poses), pranayama (breathing), and Nidra (sleep) also balance our hormones

The endocrine network ‘talks’ to the other systems within the body to control everything from growth and development to how energetic a person feels. It controls the process of hormonal balance, special chemicals produced, stored, and distributed by glands and organs within the body.

Many yoga poses stimulate and/or activate certain glands and organs, maintaining hormone balance and consistent production and distribution. Specific yoga poses include all twists, rabbit pose, forward bends and shoulder stand.

We can easily improve our health and vitality by taking care of this amazing regulatory system of the body, the endocrine system. When our hormones are balanced we feel happy and able to go out into the world and live our purpose with enthusiasm and joy. Our relationships are improved and life flows.

Chicago Protest: #HandsOffSyria!

Chicago Protest: #HandsOffSyria!

By Samantha Jacobs

On the day following Trump’s bombing of Syria, over 250 people took to the streets of Chicago to say no to war and U.S. imperialism. On April 7, actions to say #HandsOffSyria happened in over 35 cities across the country.

The protest began at Trump Tower. While the crowd was diverse, their message was clear and unified: no new U.S. war of aggression in the Middle East! Ali Hasan from People United Against Oppression, as well as ANSWER Chicago coordinator John Beacham spoke to the crowd about rejecting the lies and war propaganda. They called on the protesters to resist yet another war that uses false pretenses to justify U.S. military actions against sovereign countries. After a short rally, the crowd took to the streets.

Marching down a busy Michigan avenue with signs and chants of “No justice, no peace! U.S. out of the Middle East!” protesters were greeted by onlookers in store fronts and on the street with lot of cheers and great approval.

For decades, spending for health care, education, and jobs have been cut, while war spending continues to increase. The people are fed up and reject more U.S. involvement in the Middle East. The people know that war is not about “spreading democracy” or “humanitarian intervention.” It is about U.S. domination and increasing profits for the richest people in this country.

At the end of the march, protesters rallied again, chanting “From Syria to Palestine, occupation is a crime!” Additional speakers included Andy Thayer of the Gay Liberation Network, Patrick of the Party for Socialism and Liberation and Erica from Worker’s World Party. The speakers addressed the links between all of the people’s struggles, drawing parallels between the struggles of Palestinians, indigenous peoples, and more. Speakers talked about the many contradictions of U.S. foreign policy, regardless of which party is in power. The evening culminated in a passionate display of solidarity against war, racism, and the Trump agenda. On April 7 in Chicago and across the country, the people stood up to say, in no uncertain terms, that there will be no more blank checks for war without our resistance.

The emergency protest on April 7 was organized by ANSWER Chicago and was endorsed by organizations such as People United Against Oppression, the Anti-War Committee Chicago, March 19th Anti-War Coalition and Workers World Party.

Orlando says “Hands off Syria!”

By Dylan Tyer

On April 9, around 50 protesters convened on crowded Lake Eola Park in Downtown Orlando, in an emergency anti-war protest and march. Organized by members of the ANSWER Coalition, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the UCF student group Knights for Socialism and the Orlando Workers League, the march was very successful in initiating a dialogue among members of the community.

All eyes were on the activists as they garnered attention from all ends of the political spectrum. Many supporters of the Trump regime shouted and swore their disapproval, while church-goers leaving their Palm Sunday mass greeted the protesters with affection and peace signs.

When asked why they had assembled to protest, one organizer exclaimed:

“It is all too similar to the buildup to Iraq. We don’t have all the information, we already killed civilians, including children, in that strike, and no military solution can bring about the kinds of changes necessary for the region to be palatable to Western sensibilities and cultural norms, nor should they have to be. In short, you can’t bomb people into seeing it your way and any further military action by the United States will be used as a recruiting tool for ISIS. ISIS has already taken advantage of the chaos we created with one strike and moved in on the areas surrounding the airstrip.

“War in our time is always indiscriminate, a war on the most vulnerable sectors of society. We consistently kill more civilians than intended targets and then wonder why people are willing to follow any group who promises vengeance on the West. The point of whether this was Assad or not is irrelevant; at this point, he stands between a stable Syria and allowing it to fall into the hands of ISIS. That is the choice we face in reality with regard to Syria.”

Another commented:

“We stand against all imperialist wars. War is for the bankers, the billionaires, and the ruling class politicians. It’s not for our class, the working class. This war is killing people here by depriving them of basic needs and it’s killing people in Syria with the terrorism of illegal war.”

Los Angeles protest demands no war on Syria

Anti-war activists and members of Los Angeles’ Syrian community gathered April 7 to reject Trump’s bombing campaign in Syria. The ANSWER Coalition—in which the Party for Socialism and Liberation is proudly an anchoring organization—convened and organized the demonstration.

The attacks on Syria signal an ominous pledge to continue the endless U.S. wars in the Middle East—something which the anti-imperialist movement gathered last Friday to resist.

This bombing campaign was comparatively sudden relative to the campaigns in Iraq, Libya and the many other countries attacked by the United States. Instead of the months-long demonization campaigns against the country’s leadership, Trump and the Pentagon simply attacked. The move was no doubt calculated in part to minimize the opportunities for a popular movement to build mass opposition to the war; this administration no doubt learned from the lessons of 2013 when the Obama administration had to back down from a war on Syria due to an outpouring of mass opposition.

Los Angeles’ march consequently was as much about resisting U.S. imperialism as it was about the suppression of dissent; though the march and rally themselves were clearly against the bombing and any future U.S. intervention in Syria, the acts of marching and rallying themselves were acts of defiance against the attempts to circumvent popular resistance.

Members of Los Angeles’ sizable Syrian-American community turned out in force. Their presence was felt not only in numbers, but also by their leadership in chanting and their speakers at the beginning and end rallies.

Of course, many other communities also were represented in a true show of solidarity, from the Korean-American community to the Latino/a community—communities which understand intimately the disastrous effects of U.S. interventions on the populations the hawk politicians claim to be “saving.”

As the Trump administration readies for war in Syria and elsewhere around the world, the need for a strong anti-war movement is felt more than ever. Check the ANSWER Coalition’s Facebook page and other social media for future action alerts.

Sarasota protests Trump’s bombing of Syria

By Bryan Ellis

On April 7, 30 demonstrators protested in Sarasota against Trump’s escalated bombing of Syria, joining numerous other protests around the country. They gathered at the “Unconditional Surrender” statute at the bay front, holding signs reading “Endless war for empire” and “War Against Syria: Built on a lie!”

ANSWER Suncoast called the emergency protest in response to Trump’s illegal airstrikes on Al Shayrat Airfield in Homs on Thursday night. The bombing killed 14 people including 9 innocent civilians. Syrians have condemned the bombing as a “criminal act” and “war crime.”

“I came out here to defend Syrian sovereignty against imperialist aggressors,” said protester James Walker. “We gotta get out here and show we mean business. We have to show our solidarity with the Syrian people and their democratically elected leader.”

On the basis of several international agreements, the Syrian government disposed of its chemical weapons in 2014 under the supervision of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. The move came after a 2013 chemical weapons attack in Ghouta killed hundreds of Syrian civilians. Opposition forces blamed the Syrian government for the attack, but later analysis determined that the rebels were likely responsible.

“I came out today because I oppose the U.S. getting further involved in wars in the Middle East. The number of civilian lives lost is astronomical,” said Aiden Juge, a student at New College of Florida.

“I think the U.S. needs to start withdrawing from the Middle East and possibly work within the U.N. to encourage the people who actually live there to negotiate peace.”

Days before the chemical attack in Idlib, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson indicated that the U.S. would not seek to remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The opposition, backed by Western imperialist nations and Gulf monarchies, was nearing defeat. The Syrian military would have had little reason to use chemical weapons, however a bombing raid could have set off sarin gas stockpiled by opposition terrorist groups.

I feel like America’s actions regarding the Middle East have been very biased towards our own interests in oil as well as our racist tendencies against Muslims,” said local activist Lemon Reimer.

“We’ve eviscerated that entire region for 20, 30 years,” said Matt Cuffaro, who traveled from Tampa to join the protest.”I think it’s a serious step toward another endless war.”

Regardless of who was behind the chemical attack, all progressives should oppose Trump’s escalated war on Syria. As in Iraq, Libya and elsewhere, “humanitarian intervention” is no more than an excuse for the expansion of Western domination, the overthrow of independent governments and the acquisition of new markets and natural resources. The people of Syria deserve the right to determine their own destiny, free from the meddling of imperialists and foreign-backed terrorists who have for years brought the nightmare of war to Syria.

Secret Ancient American History

Secret Ancient American History

From Alexandra Bruce

There is a large collection of ancient Native American sites with evidence of a developed, urbanized ancient civilization called the Mississippian culture, located mostly in the Midwest,
in places like Cahokia, near St. Louis.

These sites have been largely ignored by mainstream archaeology, according to these interviewees, due to a colonial legacy of devaluing Native American culture.
