Oldest Recording of Qur’an Recitation from Ottoman Period Makkah*

Oldest Recording of Qur’an Recitation from Ottoman Period Makkah*

The oldest recording of Qur’an recitation from Makkah 132 years ago with unique footage of the holy city.

The recording was done during the Ottoman Caliphate in 1885 in Makkah.

Dutch journalist Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje compiled his rare photographs and sound recordings of Makkah 132 years ago.

Snouck’s fascinating collection of sepia-tinted images of Makkah went on display in Dubai in 2010.

Accompanied by soundscapes captured by Snouck using Thomas Edison’s newly-invented wax cylinders, the exhibition paints a very different picture from today’s holy city surrounded by skyscrapers and shopping malls.

Collins, whose wife Huda Mujarkesh is a Syrian Muslim, is the first British diplomat to perform the revered pilgrimage to Mecca, known as Hajj.

He was pictured with his wife dressed in the traditional white robes worn by pilgrims in a photo shared by Saudi women’s rights campaigner Fawziah al-Bakr via social media on Monday.

The first British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to do the pilgrimage after his conversion to Islam: Simon Collins with his wife Huda in Mecca. Alhamdulillah [Praise be to Allah],” she tweeted.

Collins has been posted to Riyadh since 2015 after fleeing Syria where he was Britain’s representative until the civil war there escalated in 2011/12. He had previously worked as the U.K.’s ambassador to Qatar and part of the diplomatic corps in Bahrain, Tunisia, India, Jordan and Dubai.

The diplomat thanked well-wishers on Twitter after news of his conversion emerged, saying he had decided to join the Islamic faith “after spending 30 years in Muslim societies.” Among those to congratulate him were two members of the Saudi royal family.

As part of his conversion and pilgrimage, Collins can now use the honorific granted those who’ve visited Islam’s holiest city, giving him the title Ambassador Haji Collins.

Officials at the East London Mosque told the Times they hoped Collins would be “able to share his recent experiences from the hajj with his non-Muslim colleagues at the British embassy.

They added that his “unique position” could prove vital in the relationship between Islam and the non-Muslim world.

Collins is, however, not the first British diplomat to convert to Islam. The writer and diplomat Charles le Gai Eaton converted to Islam in the 1950s before serving in India, Trinidad and Ghana.

Britain’s first diplomat to convert to Islam, Abdullah William Quilliam, was a 19th century British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, who denounced Britain’s imperialist policies in Sudan.

Eid Al Adha Message from Leader of U.K.s Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn*

Eid Al Adha Message from Leader of U.K.s Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn*

“On behalf of the Labour Party, I want to send my best wishes to all Muslims in the United Kingdom celebrating ‘Eid al-Adha.

“I know this is a special time for Muslims, and it is an opportunity to celebrate the values of Islam. Values of family, of community and of charity.

“At a time when so many people around the world are facing such hardship, these values seem more important than ever.

“I also want to take this chance to recognise the enormous contributions Muslims across Britain make to our country, to our communities and to our way of life.

“I wish you all a peaceful and happy ‘Eid.

’Eid Mubarak.”

Eid message from Prime Minister Rt Hon Theresa May, MP:

“To all Muslims in Britain and around the world I wish you a blessed ‘Eid al-Adha. I know this festival means a great deal to communities, a time when families and friends are brought together to pray and feast, and Muslims across different continents are brought together in faith.
“And as you share in that spirit of togetherness, I think proudly of the many ways people in this country connect with each other and enrich our nation’s life.

“I see this in politics where British Muslims are making a real difference, in enterprise and the running of multi-million pound businesses, and in the courage and dedication of those who safeguard our streets and serve in our armed forces.

“I see this in the charity and compassion of our Muslim communities, whose members give so generously to those less fortunate.

“And I also see this in the way people are brought together with those around the world through the strong bonds of shared history, family relationships, and concern for those suffering and in pain. I think particularly of the ongoing conflict in Syria and Iraq.

“Our more than two billion pound contribution, our largest ever response to a single humanitarian crisis, is helping people caught up in that appalling conflict and I am pleased that we will be continuing to provide support to those in need.

“As Prime Minister, I want to see our communities go from strength to strength. Bringing people together and ensuring that everyone is able to make the most of the opportunities Britain has to offer, no matter what their background, and no matter where they are from, is central to my Government’s mission.

“As I said when I stood on the steps of Downing Street, I want to make this a country that works for everyone.

“I am proud of the contribution British Muslims make to this country, and proud that Britain is home to people from vibrant and diverse backgrounds.

“So to all Muslims, in this country and around the world, I want to say Eid Mubarak. I wish you a happy and peaceful Eid.”

Eid messages from other Political Leaders:

Rt Hon Tim Farron MP, Leader of Liberal Democrats, Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP, First Minister of Scotland, Rt Hon Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of Wales

Rt Hon Tim Farron MP, Leader of Liberal Democrats

As more than 2 million Muslims from around the world, including thousands from the U.K. –  mark the end of their holy pilgrimage of Hajj in Mecca, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating ‘Eid al-Adha.

‘Eid al Adha’s themes of reflection, sacrifice and charity seem more and more relevant each year given the global challenges we face. For those suffering oppression across the world, we must continue to work towards peace, safety and security. I have had the pleasure of witnessing first hand Muslim organisations leading the way in this respect, from assisting at refugee camps abroad to assisting flood victims here in my very constituency.

These values of tolerance, compassion and generosity towards one and other are at the heart of Islam and the heart of ‘Eid – and I will stand by you in spreading those values in my party, in Westminster and in my constituency. On behalf of the Liberal Democrats, I would like to extend my good wishes to Muslims at this special time of year.

Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP, First Minister of Scotland

Eid Al Adha is being celebrated by Muslims all around the world – and on behalf of everyone in Scotland, I send my best wishes to our Muslim friends and neighbours. Our Muslim communities make a welcome and valued contribution to our society, culturally, socially and economically, enriching country as a whole.

Our Muslim communities continue to play a pivotal part of our work ensuring a future built on mutual trust, respect and understanding – so I wish everyone a happy and prosperous ‘Eid.

Rt Hon Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of Wales

I would like wish all Muslims in Wales and across the world ‘Eid Mubarak’ as they come together to observe ‘Eid al-Adha. The festival is a time to remember the sacrifice made by the Prophet Ibrahim and an important opportunity to focus on helping those who may be less fortunate and for bringing together communities and families. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Muslim communities of Wales for the sacrifices and enormous contributions they have made and continue to make to every area of our society.

Saudi Forces Violated Regulations against Iraqi Hajj Pilgrims*

Saudi Forces Violated Regulations against Iraqi Hajj Pilgrims*

It has been several years since relations between Saudi and Iraq has become strained, leading to Iraqi nation’s sufferings to the point that they have become subject to the violations and oppressions which Saudi Arabia metes out.

Hajj pilgrims from Iraq are pressured and humiliated before the eyes of pilgrims from other countries upon their arrival in Saudi Arabia. The most extreme behaviour towards Iraqis from Al-Hasa and Al-Qatif, who were primarily Shiite, was in 2006, when Iraqi caravans arrived, they were kept for hours for being frisked and were affronted by Saudi security forces. In the same year, Bahrainis’ buses were stopped and pilgrims had to use Saudi buses.

This story is not limited to such issues. According to the spokesperson for the senior body of Iraqi Hajj, in 2007, four of the pilgrims from thousands of Iraqis who were kept at the borderline and were prevented from entering Saudi Arabia to establish their Hajj rituals, lost their lives because of the extreme cold, hunger, and thirst. And Saudi officials announced that Iraqi pilgrims did not have official documents while Saudis themselves were fully aware of the falsehood of this statement. At the time, Iraqi government voiced its complaint about this act but did not receive any straightforward response.

Also, some others faced harsh treatment by Saudi security forces; the head of the senior body of Hajj at the time, Sheikh Mohammad Taqi Al-Mawla, wrote a letter to the king, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and complained about the obnoxious behaviour of Saudi officers towards the pilgrims and other Islamic schools.

The same inappropriate policies and behaviours have continued to persist. This year, Pakistani pilgrims were also subject to these policies by Saudis, in a bid to take revenge on Pakistanis since they were not willing to fight against Yemen. The Hajj process for these pilgrims has been slowed down since their arrival in Medina and other sites, which can be a tell-tale sign of Saudi’s arbitrary and political decision about Hajj matter.

List of Pilgrimage Victims by their Numbers from 2002 to 2014

The Hajj and Umrah Network released a list from the Health Ministry of Saudi Arabia which shows the names of all victims died in last 12 years in pilgrimage.

According to the report Twitted on the page of Hajj and Umrah Network, the number of victims are 90276 who were died for Al-Saud’s mismanagement of Hajj. 56895 of these victims are men, 33344 are women, and 32 not specified.  According to this report, the number of victims and their country from the most to the least are as follows: Saudi Arabia, 31411; Pakistan, 7991; Indonesia 5837; Nigeria 4989, Myanmar 4191, Bangladesh 3617 and Yemen 3313.

Other countries such as Syria, Algeria, Sweden, Morocco, Iran, Turkey, Malaysia with their number of victims are also in the list.

Saudi Grand Mufti Forced into Retirement*

Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, Saudi Arabia’s radical grand mufti

Saudi Arabia’s radical grand mufti may have been forced into retirement over his recent controversial comments, a report says.

Citing “high-ranking Saudi media officials,” a Sunday report by London-based Rai al-Youm paper said the recent remarks by Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, the Saudi grand Mufti, describing Iranian Shias as “not Muslims” have created “a wave of discontent” among the public and some officials in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi media officially announced on Saturday that Al Sheikh would not be delivering this year’s Hajj sermon after more than three decades. He had been continuously delivering the sermon since 1981.

The Al-Riyadh newspaper said he would be replaced by another cleric but stopped short of explaining why the grand mufti would not deliver this year’s sermon.

On Sunday, Sheikh Abdul Rahman al-Sudais took to the podium to deliver the sermon.

In its report, Rai al-Youm said that Al Sheikh’s replacement may have taken place on a request by Saudi King Salman himself in an attempt to do damage control following the mufti’s remarks against Iranian Shias.

The London-based paper said speculation over Al Sheikh’s potential forced retirement is particularly strengthened in light of the comments made by his successor, al-Sudais, who on Sunday officially thanked the grand mufti for his 35 years of delivering the Hajj sermon.

Al Sheikh preaches Wahhabism, a radical “ideology” that inspires Takfiri terrorists across the world. Such terrorist groups — particularly Daesh — declare people of other faiths and beliefs as “infidels” and, based on “decrees” from Saudi “clerics,” rule that they should be killed. The word Takfir is Arabic for “declaring as an infidel.”

The Saudi grand mufti’s remarks about Iranian Shias were met by a strong response from Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who pointed to the link between Wahhabism and Takfiri terrorism and said there indeed existed no similarity between the Islam practiced by Iranians and that of the Wahhabis.

“Indeed; no resemblance between Islam of Iranians and most Muslims and bigoted extremism that Wahhabi top cleric and Saudi terror masters preach,” Zarif tweeted after the remarks by Al Sheikh.

Iranian pilgrims did not attend this year’s Hajj pilgrimage over concerns about Saudi Arabia’s failure to provide security guarantees for pilgrims.

A crush during the Hajj rituals last year killed about 4,700 pilgrims, including 465 Iranians. The incident was caused by the mismanagement of Saudi authorities, who had blocked roads and directed two columns of pilgrims toward one another from opposite directions.

Just days before the crush, a massive construction crane had collapsed onto the Grand Mosque in Mecca, killing more than 100 people, including a number of Iranians, and leaving over 200 others wounded.

The Day of Arafa

The Day of Arafa

From SeekersHub, Australia

The Day of Arafa is one of the most blessed and beloved days of the entire year. It is the culmination of the Hajj, such that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him & his folk) said, “Hajj is Arafa!”

Prayer and Action for the Welfare of the Muslims

This is a day of devotion, for those on Hajj and for all Muslims. Fasting on this day expiates all sins, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us, and all actions are multiplied in reward on this day.

Make the most of this day. Fast, turn to Allah in prayer, and spend time in reflection.

Reflect on your relationship with Allah. Reflect on what you need to return to Allah–and ask Allah to facilitate this for you.

Reflect on your relationship with the Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him), and how you return to his radiant example of mercy, beauty, and excellence in all aspects of your life.

Reflect on your relationships, and how to improve your relations with your parents, spouse, children, and your family–and ask Allah to facilitate this for you.

Reflect on how you can benefit Allah’s creation through service and through charity–and ask Allah to facilitate this for you, keeping in mind that, “Allah is in the aid of His servant as long as His servant is in the aid of others.”

May Allah make this Day of Arafa a day of return to Allah; a day of renewal and reconnecting; a day of real spiritual and social good.

And may the days of Eid be truly blessed days of rejoicing for you, your family, and the entire Umma of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him & his folk).

On this blessed day, consider becoming a monthly supporter of SeekersHub Global: join us in spreading the light reliable, inspiring Prophetic guidance, to millions around the world.

Muslim World Reacts to assigning Hajj Security to Israelis*

Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, Al-Aqsa’s Mosque preacher has warned against Israel’s penetration into Arab and Islamic society through this company and pointed out that providing security for Hajj pilgrims by Israeli intelligence and security corporation is not permissible or advisable.

G4S, is an English Israel – linked corporation, which is assigned with the task of providing security for Haj pilgrimage, Israel’s radio website reported.

This Internet source said, Saudi government has signed a contract  with this Israeli corporation in order to provide Hajj security، during which electronic bracelets are put around Pilgrims’ wrists upon their arrival up to their departure.

This bracelet, equipped with advanced cutting – edge technology, allows foreign intelligence organizations which have strategic relations with Saudi to locate Hajis- Haj Pilgrims – whenever they desire.

This corporation has several branches across Saudi Arabia, in such cities as: Jeddah, Ta’if, Riyadh, and at the time of the events, security operations staff of the Saudi intelligence organization have to obtain information from this Israeli corporation.

This decision regarding Hajj security has already sparked complaints from Muslim scholars over the past years.

Another document suggests that Saudi government has also signed a contract with this corporation in order to defend its Southern borders against Houthis attacks.

It is noteworthy to say that G4S is responsible for providing security for Israel regime’s prisons and has equipped this regime with a variety of torture devices as it played an active role in suppressing the Palestinian captives.
