Aromatherapy: Emergency First Aid Kit

When one thinks about the typical things that go in a first aid kit, there are some items that one would prefer not to be reliant on especially if one is predisposed to natural remedies.  Focusing on aromatherapy, here are some essential oils that will come in handy bearing in mind the predispositions and sensibilities of family members. However, take care that the essential oils are therapeutic grade, i.e. not adulterated and pure e.g. lavandin is sold as lavender in the U.S.

One should include:

– Cotton, gauze, bandages, scissors, tweezers, thermometer, eye droppers.

– Oils of an antiseptic nature should be diluted in a Carrier oil like sweet almond, grape seed and kept in dark glassed bottles away from sunlight.

– Replace items that have been used, and refresh the content every 18 months.

 

*Black Seed Oil

Convalescence – Helps to speed up the recovery process.

Infection – It is a powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and antiseptic – great for cleaning wounds, and eliminating any systemic infection

Immunity – It stimulates the immune system, and helps relieve the body of accumulated toxins/fluids

Nervous System – acts as a stimulant

Skin – The skin is a part of the immune system which might react to any trauma/stress. This oil is good for relieving and emotional skin reactions like psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis.

*Cedarwood

Emotions – Eases feelings of anxiety

Infections – Helps to relieve urinary tract infections like cystitis

*Citronella

Mosquitoes Repels

*Eucalyptus

Infection – It is a good antiviral, and an antibacterial.

Insects – Repels

Respiration It helps to improve breathing, and is a good decongestant for the respiratory tract, and helps to relieve asthma.

*Fennel

Nursing – Helps to stimulate lactation

*Frankincense

Inflammation – Applied to the skin, it acts as a good anti-inflammatory

Emotions – It helps to balance the emotions. It is uplifting yet relaxing. Supports the crown chakra.

Respiration – It helps to relieve asthma, and coughs.

Immunity – It stimulates the immune system, and is good for shortening the length of colds and respiratory infections.

*Geranium

Burns – Helps to relieve burns, and stimulate cell/tissue/nerve growth in the case of damaged/loss of skin

Blood Stems haemorrhaging

Emotions – Eases feelings of depression, nervous tension, and any emotional extremes.

Kidneys – It stimulates the kidneys

Menses – It eases menopausal symptoms, and regulates hormones in general.

Mosquitoes Repels

*German Chamomile

Arthritis – Helps to relieve the discomfort .

Dentition – Eases teething, and toothache.

Dermatitis – For those with a skin that reacts to emotional upsets including eczema, abscesses

Emotions – Eases feelings of anger.

Head – Relieves headaches and  migraines.

Inflammation – Helps to reduce inflammation around joints.

Menses – It balances any problems with delayed or painful periods, and eases menopausal symptoms.

*Lavender

Cuts – It is an antiseptic and antibacterial that is good for cuts and wounds

Emotions – Eases feelings of depression, and nervous tension

Head – Relieves headaches, and  migraines.

Heart – Eases palpitations

Immune system – It stimulates the immune system which can be compromised by stress and/or reaction to injury

Infections – Fleas don’t like lavender!

Inflammation – It is an anti-inflammatory therefore reducing inflammation that may occur from internal wounds If one cannot burn the oil as in Vapour Therapy by placing it on the skin of the affected area, the skin will pass the lavender into the blood stream via the skin.

Mind – It is a stimulant to the mind, yet, relaxing. A smudge on the forehead will help someone to sleep.

Wounds  – Promotes tissue regeneration, and speeds up the healing of wounds minimizing scarring , especially acid burns.

*Lemon

Gallbladder – Relieves congestion.

Hypertension – Good for reducing high blood pressure

Wounds – As a powerful anti-bacterial and astringent it helps to clean and close wounds, which in doing so reduces the loss of blood, by using it as a compress.

*Myrrh

Respiration – Helps to reduce catarrh, and relieve coughs.

Energy – Supports the crown chakra.

*Orange Blossom/Neroli

Emotions – It is a good antidepressant leaving one feeling more positive, and for relieving hysteria.

Stomach – Is good for relieving flatulence when one has no choice but to eat what is available, and is good for stemming diarrhoea when one cannot afford to lose more bodily fluids. A drop added to tea is helpful in the case of diarrhoea and flatulence.

Skin care – It helps to tone the skin when placed under stress, and reduce scarring.

*Peppermint

Head – Relieves headaches, and  migraines.

Liver – Strengthens the liver

Mind – Eases mental fatigue

Respiration – It helps to clear blocked sinuses, relieving the feeling of nausea, and motion sickness as well as to awake from fainting.

Temperature – Reduces fever

*Rose

Emotions – Eases emotional shock, and grief

Energy – Supports the heart chakra

*Rosemary

Memory – Strengthens memory

Pain – It helps to relieve pain, and improve circulation.

Respiration – Helps to relieve bronchitis
