Rape in India Gains Its Rightful Status*

Rape in India Gains Its Rightful Status*

Without the mass protests by both men, and women, this would never have happened…but like any other criminal (now over the age of consent) his anonymity should not be his right.

An Indian juvenile court convicted a teenager of rape and murder Saturday in the first conviction stemming from the December gang rape of a young woman on a moving New Delhi bus.

The defendant, who was 17 at the time of the attack, has been sentenced to three years in a reform home, the maximum sentence he could have faced, his lawyer Rajesh Tewari said. Indian law forbids the publication of his name, though he has since turned 18.

The attack, which left the victim with such extensive internal injuries that she died two weeks later, sparked protests across the country and led to reforms of India’s antiquated sexual violence laws. The government, facing immense public pressure, had promised swift justice in the case.

The convicted defendant was one of six people accused of tricking a 23-year-old woman and her male companion into boarding an off-duty bus Dec. 16 after they had seen an afternoon showing of `’Life of Pi” at an upscale shopping mall. Police say the men raped the woman and used a metal bar to inflict massive internal injuries to her. They also beat her male companion. The victims were dumped naked on the roadside, and the woman died from her injuries in a Singapore hospital.

Four of the other defendants are being tried in a special fast track court in New Delhi and face the death penalty. The sixth accused was found dead in his jail cell in March. The court is expected to hand down the rest of the verdicts next month.

Family wants teen to be tried as adult

The convicted defendant was tried as a minor on charges including murder and rape. The time he spent in a juvenile home since he was arrested in December will count as part of his three-year sentence, Tewari said.

The attack set off furious protests across India about the treatment of women in the country and led to an overhaul of sexual assault laws.

The victim’s family called for the teenager to be tried as an adult, accusing him of being the most violent of the attackers.

“He should be hanged irrespective of whether he is a juvenile or not. He should be punished for what he did to my daughter,” Asha Devi, the mother of the victim, said soon after the verdict was announced.

A government panel set to suggest reforms to sexual assault laws rejected calls to lower the age at which people can be tried as adults from 18 to 16.

On July 17, India’s top court also refused to reduce the age of a juvenile from 18 to 16 years. However, it later agreed to hear a new petition seeking to take the “mental and intellectual maturity” of the defendant into account and not just age.

Priest Arrested for Sexual Abuse Spanning 37 years*

85-year-old Irish Catholic priest, Paul Cullen has been arrested on the Spanish island of Tenerife for the sexual abuse of young boys in Britain, spanning a 37-year period.

Cullen, originally from Dublin, was arrested in the town of Arona, in the Canary Islands. He was wanted by the police for alleged indecent assaults in Derbyshire, in Britain. It is alleged that this abuse took place between 1955 and 1991. Some of the children, altar boys, were aged just 7, 8 and 12 when they were first abused.

The priest was detained on a European arrest warrant, issued in Britain. He will be taken to the National Court in Madrid.

The alleged abuse took place in religious centers and churches. It’s also reported that the first instance took place when Cullen was just 27, 58 years ago.

One of the seven-year-olds was abused on ten or 12 times, until the age of 14.

The second victim was an eight-year-old altar boy when the abuse started. It went on until he was 16.

The third was a 12-year-old who had been placed in Cullen’s care for two weeks in 1991. Cullen allegedly abused this boy at home and in the changing rooms of the church.

Egypt Court Rules against Banning Porn Websites*

It seems the Courts have got their priorities in order, instead of worrying what the cost will be –has been to society that has contributed to a big rise in sex crimes against women and children in a country that has the highest divorce rates in the region,  a human trafficking problem, and pre-schoolers who have access to porn. If they keep it up they will be on NWO track to make Egyptian society completely dysfunctional. As incidents of rape rises, folks in the countryside have already begun to take matters into their hands when they find out who the rapist is.

The Administrative Court ruled on Saturday against the banning of pornography websites in Egypt.

A case was filed by lawyer Ibrahim El-Salamony against former President Mohamed Morsi’s request to ban pornography websites in Egypt.

El-Salamony filed the case, arguing that marriage burdens and high unemployment in recent years have led many young men to turn to pornographic websites. Banning such sites, the lawyer said, would protect society.

Last November, former Prosecutor-General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud submitted an official letter to the ministries of telecommunications, information and interior ordering that measures be adopted to ban pornographic websites in Egypt, based on a 2009 court order to this effect.

In May 2009, Egypt’s Supreme Administrative Court declared a ban on pornographic websites. The move was based on a lawsuit filed by Islamist lawyer Nezar Ghourab.

Blocking pornographic websites would cost Egypt up to LE100 million ($16.5m) to implement and may place a significant strain on the country’s internet services, according to telecom and IT experts.

Renewed Protests against Egyptian Army*

Renewed Protests against Egyptian Army*

By Alice Fordham

But forbidden the rights that Morsi afforded the now ruling opposition were given under Morsi, protests alone will not return Morsi unless the sigh of relief displayed is a sign that numbers count. However, what was significant about these protests is that they have spread beyond the poor areas targeted for attack, and an increase in numbers of non-Muslim Brotherhood anti-government protests

As Egypt becomes more isolated, the opposition is paying attention to what other countries think of their killing all opposition.

CAIRO: Thousands of people demonstrated against the military-backed government across Egypt on Friday, in rallies that were smaller than similar ones earlier in the month, but still defiant and in some cases violent.

According to the Muslim Brotherhood, the dominant force behind the rallies, six people were killed in marches in Giza and Port Said. It was not possible to confirm the numbers immediately.

The largest march in Cairo gathered in the Nasr City area where, earlier in the day, a civilian and a policeman were killed in a drive-by shooting at a police station, state media reported.

Despite heavy security across the capital, marches also took place in the upscale Maadi neighbourhood, in working-class Imbaba and in the central Mohendisseen area, where there have been clashes between Islamists and security forces in the last week.

The marchers chanted for the return of the Brotherhood-backed president Mohammed Morsi, now deposed by the army and held on charges including escaping from prison in 2011.

After a tumultuous two months, in which more than 1,000 people have died, a crackdown by the military and police on the Brotherhood has produced a lull in their demonstrations and activities.

The leadership of the movement, including its supreme guide Mohamed Badie, is jailed and facing criminal charges, as are thousands more rank-and-file members and sympathisers.

On Thursday, police arrested another top Brotherhood official, Mohamed Al Beltagy, who is the secretary general of its Freedom and Justice Party.

Pictures of Mr Al Beltagy, whose 17-year-old daughter Asmaa was killed in the crackdown on a sit-in earlier in the month, circulated online. He looked dishevelled as police in balaclavas made victory signs around him.

Earlier in the day, he had featured in an Al Jazeera broadcast condemning the July 3 military removal of Mr Morsi as a coup, and calling for demonstrations. He insisted that the Brotherhood does not involve itself in terrorism, as the new authorities have repeatedly alleged.

But despite the crippling loss of the group’s leadership, crowds are still gathering every Friday to demonstrate. A defiant statement from the Brotherhood said that there remains “a continuing scene of civilised and dignified protest that is, in fact, escalating day by day, throughout the nation, thus befuddling the putschists’ heinous plots.”

Thousands gathered in the Nasr City area of Cairo, near the Rabia Al AdawIyya mosque, where the July 14 clear-out of the sit-in resulted in hundreds of deaths.

Footage from the protest showed demonstrators holding up yellow posters depicting a hand with four fingers – a reference to the name of the mosque. The protesters called for the fall of the “assassin,” in reference to military chief Gen Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The country is still in a state of emergency, which has expanded the rights of security forces to detain people without charge.

The capital is still dotted with checkpoints, especially after dark, and last night, a 9pm curfew was tightened once more to 7pm.

Putin Threatens Strike on Saudi if US Attacks Syria*

Putin Threatens Strike on Saudi if US Attacks Syria*

A grim “urgent action memorandum” issued today from the office of President Putin to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is ordering a “massive military strike” against Saudi Arabia in the event that the West attacks Syria.

According to Kremlin sources familiar with this extraordinary “war order,” Putin became “enraged” after his early August meeting with Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan who warned that if Russia did not accept the defeat of Syria, Saudi Arabia would unleash Chechen terrorists under their control to cause mass death and chaos during the Winter Olympics scheduled to be held 7-23 February 2014 in Sochi, Russia.

Lebanese newspaper As-Safir confirmed this amazing threat against Russia saying that Prince Bandar pledged to safeguard Russia’s naval base in Syria if the Assad regime is toppled, but he also hinted at Chechen terrorist attacks on Russia’s Winter Olympics in Sochi if there is no accord by stating:

“I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us.”

Prince Bandar went on to say that Chechens operating in Syria were a pressure tool that could be switched on an off.“These groups do not scare us. We use them in the face of the Syrian regime but they will have no role in Syria’s political future.”

London’s The Telegraph News Service further reported today that Saudi Arabia has secretly offered Russia a sweeping deal to control the global oil market and safeguard Russia’s gas contracts, if the Kremlin backs away from the Assad regime in Syria, an offer Putin replied to by saying

“Our stance on Assad will never change. We believe that the Syrian regime is the best speaker on behalf of the Syrian people, and not those liver eaters”

[Putin said referring to footage showing a Jihadist rebel eating the heart and liver of a Syrian soldier HERE], and which Prince Bandar in turn warned that there can be “no escape from the military option” if Russia declines the olive branch.

The Federal Security Services (FSB) confirmed the validity of the released hacked emails of the British based defense company, Britam Defense that stunningly warned the Obama regime was preparing to unleash a series of attacks against both Syria and Iran in a move Russian intelligence experts warned could very well cause World War III.

According to this FSB report, Britam Defence, one of the largest private mercenary forces in the world, was the target of a “massive hack” of its computer files by an “unknown state sponsored entity” this past January who then released a number of critical emails between its top two executives, founder Philip Doughty and his Business Development Director David Goulding.

The two most concerning emails between Doughty and Goulding, this report says, states that the Obama regime has approved a “false flag” attack in Syria using chemical weapons, and that Britam has been approved to participate in the West’s warn on Iran, and as we can read:

Email 1: Phil, We’ve got a new offer. It’s about Syria again. Qataris propose an attractive deal and swear that the idea is approved by Washington. We’ll have to deliver a CW (chemical weapon) to Homs (Syria), a Soviet origin g-shell from Libya similar to those that Assad should have. They want us to deploy our Ukrainian personnel that should speak Russian and make a video record. Frankly, I don’t think it’s a good idea but the sums proposed are enormous. Your opinion? Kind regards David

Email 2: Phil, Please see attached details of preparatory measures concerning the Iranian issue. Participation of Britam in the operation is confirmed by the Saudis.

With the events now spiraling out of control in Syria, and London’s Independent News Service now

reporting that Prince Bandar is “pushing for war,” Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich further warned the West today by stating, “Attempts to bypass the Security Council, once again to create artificial groundless excuses for a military intervention in the region are fraught with new suffering in Syria and catastrophic consequences for other countries of the Middle East and North Africa.”

Heedless of Russian warnings which have fallen on deaf ears, however, British Prime Minister David Cameron this morning recalled the British Parliament to vote on attacking Syria as the Obama regime abruptly cancelled their meeting with Russia scheduled for tomorrow on finding a path to peace for Syria, and the West begins its plans to attack the Syrian nation “within days.”

As Syria itself has warned that should it be attacked by the West there will be “global chaos,” the Western peoples themselves have not been told of the fact that on 17 May 2013, Putin ordered Russian military forces to “immediately move” from Local War to Regional War operational status and to be “fully prepared” to expand to Large-Scale War should either the US or EU enter into the Syrian Civil War, a situation they are still in at this very hour.

With Putin’s previous order, and as we had reported on in our 17 May report “Russia Issues “All-Out War” Alert Over Syria,” and now combined with his new ordering of massive retaliatory strikes against Saudi Arabia, any attack on Syria is viewed by Russia as being an attack on itself.

And as we had previously explained in great detail, the fight over Syria, being led by Saudi Arabia and Qatar and their lap-dog Western allies, has but one single objective: To break Russia’s hold on the European Union natural gas market which a pipeline through Syria would accomplish, and as reported by London’s Financial Times News Service this past June:

reported by London’s Financial Times News Service this past June:

“The tiny gas-rich state of Qatar has spent as much as $3bn over the past two years supporting the rebellion in Syria, far exceeding any other government, but is now being nudged aside by Saudi Arabia as the prime source of arms to rebels.

The cost of Qatar’s intervention, its latest push to back an Arab revolt, amounts to a fraction of its international investment portfolio. But its financial support for the revolution that has turned into a vicious civil war dramatically overshadows western backing for the opposition.

Qatar [also] has proposed a gas pipeline from the Gulf to Turkey in a sign the emirate is considering a further expansion of exports from the world’s biggest gas-field after it finishes an ambitious programmer to more than double its capacity to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG).”

And in what is, perhaps, the most unimaginable cause to start World War III over Syria was noted by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Aleksandr Lukashevich who said this past week:

“We’re getting more new evidence that this criminal act was of a provocative nature,” he stressed. “In particular, there are reports circulating on the Internet, in particular that the materials of the incident and accusations against government troops had been posted for several hours before the so-called attack. Thus, it was a pre-planned action.”

For the West to have so sloppily engineered yet another “false flag” attack to justify a war where they posted the videos of this so-called chemical weapons attack a full day before it was said to occur is the height of arrogance and disdain, but which their sleep-walking citizens, yet again, will fall for as they have done so many times in the past.

Why Rabaa Al-Adaweya?: The Story Behind the Mosque*

Why Rabaa Al-Adaweya?: The Story Behind the Mosque*

By George Richards

In the aftermath of last month’s military intervention and removal of President Morsi from office, supporters of the ousted president and of the Muslim Brotherhood have gathered outside the Rabaa Al-Adaweya Mosque in eastern Cairo. Morsi’s supporters have held the small crossroads outside the Mosque for almost a month now, and their resolve has not wavered in the face of attempted dispersal by the military, the death of around seventy of their number last weekend in clashes with security forces, or the military’s recent decision to grant the sate security forces special powers for their removal by force. The protesters are holding the Rabaa Al-Adaweya Mosque — but what is its significance?

Not Just Another Mosque

When protesters demonstrating against President Morsi’s predecessor, Hosni Mubarak, gathered in Tahrir Square and then held it against the state security forces until Mubarak was overthrown, the significance of the Square was apparent — tahrir means liberation in Arabic, and the square is, more or less, the hub of the city. Not so with Rabaa Al-Adaweya Mosque.

On the first nights after President Morsi was deposed, his supporters tried to storm the Republican Guards’ Club, where they believed Morsi was being detained. The Club is a middling sort of place, by no means as smart as the Judges’ Club downtown, or as green and sprawling as the Gezira Sporting Club on an island in the Nile.

Morsi supporters believed their leader had been double-crossed by his bodyguard, a modern-day Roman emperor betrayed by the Praetorian Guard. They may be right — after all, if the Republican Guard had remained loyal, how could General Sisi and the other top brass have removed the president from office without bloodshed? For now, Morsi’s exact whereabouts remain unknown to the public.

The only mosque of any note near to the Republican Guards’ Club (straight up Tayaran Street) happens to be Rabaa Al-Adaweya. When Morsi’s supporters, already brimming with religiosity, found themselves thwarted in their attempt to storm the Club, they retreated to the Mosque for prayer, set up camp, and have been there ever since.

There is something else that may have drawn Morsi’s supporters to the Rabaa Al-Adaweya Mosque. Aside from the Republican Guards’ Club, Rabaa Al-Adaweya has a place at the heart of the long power-struggle between the Islamists and the military in Egypt.

The Presidential Palace in Heliopolis — Ittihadeyya Palace, where Mubarak is supposed to have eked out his last days in power — is just around the corner on Salah Salem Street. Carry on past the Palace, and you reach the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier, a modernist pyramid erected to commemorate the dead of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. And it was across from the Memorial, as a military parade passed by on Armed Forces Day in 1981, that President Sadat was shot dead by members of Islamic Jihad, an Islamist organisation (firmly distinct from the Muslim Brotherhood). Before he was buried at the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier, Sadat’s funeral was held in a nearby mosque: Rabaa Al-Adaweya. More recently, it was in Rabaa Al-Adaweya Mosque that 25,000 mourners gathered in 2004 for the funeral of Ma’moun Al-Hudaybi, the last Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood to die in office.

Who Was Rabaa Al-Adaweya?

Rabaa Al-Adaweya is a heroine of Arab Islamic lore: the country-girl who wanted to see the big city (Basra, in modern Iraq). She was sold into slavery, fell in love with a nobleman, and eventually gave up all worldly riches for a life of prayer in the desert. Rabaa’s fame stems from her poetry and philosophical musings, later compiled by the Persian scholar Farid al-Din Attar, and from her unusual position as a prominent Muslim woman in the early days of Islam (she lived in the eighth century) and as a Sufi.

Rabaa’s ties to Egypt are weak, as far as we know; she seems to have spent her life in Mesopotamia, and never crossed the Red Sea or the Sinai. But just as many churches in England or Italy or Spain are named after far-off women-saints, like St. Mary Magdalene, we should not be surprised that a mosque in eastern Cairo is named after Rabaa Al-Adaweya.

The Dream of Rabaa Al-Adaweya

Aside from the Mosque, Rabaa Al-Adaweya is better known in Egypt from the 1963 film of the same name. The film is still shown often on Egyptian television, and is much loved for the performances of Nabila Ebeid (in the eponymous role) and Farid Shawky, as well as the singing of that icon of Egypt, “the Star of the East,” Oum Kalthoum.

Rabaa Al-Adaweya is a paradigm of Egyptian cinema’s celebrated Romantic style. Filmed in the heightened reality of Agfacolor, Rabaa Al-Adaweya is set in a dreamy, Arabian idyll, a world of domes and minarets, souks and bazaars, monkeys and caged nightingales, viziers and harems, belly dancers, silk merchants and grubby fat slave traders. Rabaa’s story is told cinematically and musically; it may not quite capture the intricacies of her philosophy, but it has certainly made her well-loved in Egypt.

So much so that, until last month’s protests, when Egyptians thought of Rabaa Al-Adaweya, they probably thought of the film. More specifically, they probably half-shut their eyes and saw a woman with gold earrings and lots of silk dancing to an Oum Kalthoum song.
